Nov 20th 2011
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any questions.
Please do stay for tea and coffee afterwards, and feel free to carry your drink into the main body of the church.
We welcome Father Nick Leggett, the Vicar of St Oswalds to lead and preach at our service this morning, while Greg reciprocates at St Oswalds.
This evening, there is a Youth Service led by our young people at 6.30 p.m. in which the theme is caring for God’s creation. Please do come along and support our young people.
Meets at Park Hill School next Sunday at 10.30 a.m. St@PH is a service of contemporary worship, with a very warm sense of fellowship which meets every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. All are warmly welcomed.
Our successful Pram Service which provides for parents/carers and pre-school children has now doubled in frequency, in conjunction with St Oswalds Tile Hill. This very informal service takes place on the second Tuesday of each month at St Oswalds and on the 4th Sunday at St Andrews. The service starts at 9.15 a.m. with people arriving from 9 a.m. for tea/coffee. The next one takes place this Tuesday 22nd at St Andrews. All welcome.
The December Worship 4 All service on the 4th will be a Christingle Service. Please consider supporting the Children’s Society by taking a Christingle candle moneybox and filling it with change. You can return this at the service or at other services that week. Although the main focus of the service is Christingle, we will as usual be receiving new toys to be distributed around the city to those children who would otherwise receive very little this Christmas.
Darkness to Light
We are having a special Darkness to Light Advent Service on Advent Sunday(next Sunday), November 27th at 6 p.m. to mark the start of Advent. Please do join us for this special candlelit service. We are looking for people to help with this service, by reading, acting as sidespersons or serving refreshments. If able to help, please speak to Greg.
We are seeking additional volunteers to act as sidespersons (welcoming people and distributing hymn books etc.) to join our loyal band of helpers; and also those willing to carry the elements (bread and wine) forward during the offertory. If able to help, please speak to Steve Wankling or Greg.
Please support our Bible Marathon in which we celebrate the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible taking place in church on Friday November 25th from 9 a.m. till 12 midnight. Come just for half an hour or the whole day if you dare! Leaflets at the back of church have the programme for the day, which include presentations by the Infant and Junior Schools, an overview of the gospels given by Greg at 12 noon; an exciting story (Mary Jones and her bible) for children and a finale at 11.30 p.m. that includes the Vicar being subjected to a Mastermind Quiz.
The very popular Nightingales Singers are going to be performing at St Andrews on Saturday December 10th at 7 p.m. with their wonderful Christmas repertoire. Tickets are available at £5 for adults and £2 for children from Barbara 76403458 or Marguerite 76461405.
We are hosting a disco at Eastern Green Village Hall on Saturday Dec 3rd from 1 p.m till 4 p.m. Any child of Junior School age i.e. in school years 3-6 welcome. Tickets are £2 and are available from Victoria on 76461184 or email@example.com. With a capacity for the event of 48, it is advisable to book early. We are also looking for adult volunteers to help with the event. You would not be required to lead activities, merely supply an additional grown up presence for some or all of the time. Please speak to Greg or Victoria if able to help.
Continued thanks to all those who are supporting our window appeal. It will not have escaped your notice that the cracks are increasing in size with the dry weather. We hope to be given permission to undertake remedial work early in the new year. The appeal currently stands at £5,200.
St Andrews Day
Please join the Wednesday congregation in celebrating St Andrews Day on Weds Nov 30th at 10 a.m.
Advance notice that St Andrews will be running two Carol Services this year: at St Andrews on December 18th at 6 p.m. and jointly with St Oswalds at the Massey Ferguson Social Club on December 11th at 6 p.m.
We are scheduled to be desperately short of Junior Church leaders next term, and may no longer be able to offer a full programme. Please do pray about whether God might be calling you to this vital ministry. Leaders are expected to take part in a rota (usually once a month). Please speak to Frances Hawkey if you would like to know more.
We would very much like additional volunteers for the flower rota. Please consider whether you would like to sponsor flowers at an approximate cost of £5 for a week in memory of a loved one or in celebration of a birthday/anniversary. Please put your name on the rota at the back of church or speak to Ann Dove. You would be asked to specify colours of flowers but would not be expected to undertake the arrangement.
