Pews News – 18/12/2011

Welcome
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality.  You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith.  If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any questions.

Coffee
Please do stay for tea and coffee afterwards, and feel free to carry your drink into the main body of the church.

Thanks
To all those who made the Archdeacon of Coventry, Ian Watson and his wife so welcome last week.  They were very impressed by the warmth of the church.

St@PH
St@PH is a service of contemporary worship, with a very warm sense of fellowship which meets every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month.  All are warmly welcomed. (Please note there is no service on Christmas Day, with the next service being held on January 8th).

Worship 4 All
The January Worship 4 All service will take place on January 8th at 10.30 a.m. at Park Hill School.  Please note this is different from the normal pattern in terms of date, time and venue.  Do join us if you can.

Nightingales
Many thanks to the Nightingales Singers for their Christmas concert last night.  And thanks also to David and Bernice for organising and hosting the event.  £250 was raised towards church funds.

Toys
Many thanks to all those who donated toys for our annual Christmas appeal.  These have now been transported to Coventry City Mission and will be distributed to over 100 families as a sign of God’s love this Christmas.

St Oswald’s Advice Centre
St Oswald’s Advice Centre meets every Friday between 9.30am and 12.00 noon, in the parish hall in Jardine Crescent, Coventry, to support people who are in difficulty by offering them free, impartial, and confidential advice on Welfare Rights, Benefits, Housing, Legal, Health, Local and National Services, enabling them to gain access to Legal, Local Authority, and National Government Services, including Welfare.

St Oswald’s services are provided by volunteer advisors and also volunteer students from Warwick University and is currently the only provider of advice in this area of the city. We are a member of Advice UK.

We are looking to strengthen our staff levels with volunteers to provide this much needed requirement for the people of Tile Hill, and Coventry.  If you are a qualified Advice Worker, a retired solicitor or lawyer, worked for a trade union or jobcentre or DHSS, or just keen to help others and wish to enhance our Centre by giving your time – one Friday morning a week – then please telephone Father Nicholas Leggett, Chairman of the Advice Centre on 07762-156380 for more details.

John Goodwin
We are very grateful to Mary Goodwin and her family for their request of their family and friends that they should donate to the St Andrews Window Appeal in memory of John.

Walsingham
Father Nick Leggett at St Oswalds is leading a pilgrimage to Walsingham next Spring.  If you are interested in joining the party, please speak to Greg.

Window Fund
Continued thanks to all those who are supporting our window appeal.  It will not have escaped your notice that the cracks are increasing in size with the dry weather.  We hope to be given permission to undertake remedial work early in the new year.  The appeal currently stands at £5,200.

Christmas Day readers
Two volunteers are needed to read on Christmas Day.  Please speak to Greg if you are willing to volunteer.

Carol Service
The annual carol service takes place tonight at 6 p.m.  Please come and celebrate with us.
