Pews News Nov 24th 2013

November 24th 2013

Welcome

St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality.  You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith.  If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Special Welcome

To those who were confirmed yesterday at Coventry Cathedral: Rosemarie Over, Emma Kelham, Sean Wildman, Stan Cooper, Chris Reed, Sharon Beales and Grace Daramola, who  are sharing communion with us for the first time today.  Please do continue to pray for them having taken this important step of commitment.

Sad News

Amanda Evans, Jackie Page’s daughter, sadly died on last week at Myton Hospice.  Her funeral takes place at St Andrews on Friday Nov 29th at 11 a.m.  Please pray for Jackie, Amanda’s husband Mark and the children, Jessica and Bethany at this very sad time.

Congratulations

To Sophie Corden who is being baptised today.

StAPH

The church council has agreed to employ a half time leader of StAPH (our church plant that meets at Woodlands School), with a salary of £11k, starting in May.  Please speak to Greg or Alex for an informal discussion.  The job description, person specification and application form are available on the St Andrews Website at www.strentz.com/standrews.  The post is being advertised across other local churches, but we want to do everything possible to encourage applications from within our own fellowship.  Do pray for StAPH as it commences another exciting stage of its journey.

YMCA

Please consider supporting Coventry YMCA on Weds of this week by voting for their basketball project in the People’s Millions competition.  Voting is on Weds only and the phone will be available on that day only on the website www.peoplesmillions.org.uk .  It is a great opportunity for this city and this area to win such a prestigious competition.  Calls cost only 10p with BT.

Congratulations

To Trev and Grace and Trevor and Pauline who were married at St Andrews this last week.

Toy Service

We hold our annual Toy Service next Sunday at 10 a.m.  Please bring new unwrapped toys to place under the Christmas Tree.  They will be donated to Coventry City Mission and distributed to children who will otherwise have nothing or very little at Christmas.

Crèche

The PCC have agreed to establish a staffed crèche during Sunday communion services starting on December 8th.  We would be grateful to anyone who would be willing to serve on a rota to help with this.  If you are willing to help, please speak to Kate or Greg.

Typhoon Appeal

Make a secure donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Typhoon Haiyan appeal at
http://www.dec.org.uk/?source=38degrees

– £12.50 could pay for a month’s worth of water purification tablets for five affected families
– £25 could provide a hungry family with 1 week’s worth of food
– £100 could prove an emergency shelter and bedding for a family whose home has been flattened

Besom

We are looking for a volunteer to attend an exploratory meeting of Besom (as advertised last week) tomorrow evening at St Christopher’s church to represent St Andrews.  For further details, please see Greg.

Link Deliverers party

There is a thank you party for all those wonderful souls who deliver the Link magazine rain or shine in some cases for many, many years.  It will take place in the church room on Thursday 5th December at 7.30 p.m.  Anyone who currently delivers the Link or has done so in the past is welcome.  See Barbara Warner for further details.
