Pews News – 15th December 2013

December 8th 2013

Welcome

St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality.  You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith.  If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

StAPH

The church council has agreed to employ a half time leader of StAPH (our church plant that meets at Woodlands School), with a salary of £11k, starting in May.  Please speak to Greg or Alex for an informal discussion.  The job description, person specification and application form are available on the St Andrews Website at www.standrews-eg.org.uk. The post is being advertised across other local churches, but we want to do everything possible to encourage applications from within our own fellowship.  Do pray for StAPH as it commences another exciting stage of its journey.

 Administrator

The Church Council has also agreed to employ a part-time administrator.  The post is for 16 hours a week at £8.50 an hour, working from home and accountable to the Vicar.  Please contact Greg on 7642 2856 or gregsmith316760@tiscali.co.uk for informal discussion.  Job description and application form available from the St Andrews Website at  www.standrews-eg.org.uk.  Closing date for applications is Dec 31st.  It is hoped that the successful applicant will take up post on 20th Jan or as soon as possible thereafter.

Toys

Thanks to all those who have supported this year’s Toy appeal.  They have now been kindly delivered by Liz Reed to Coventry City Mission and will be distributed to children who will otherwise have nothing or very little at Christmas.

 St Andrews Web address

Please note the St Andrews Church website address has changed: www.standrews-eg.org.uk  However, if you continue to use the old address, you will still be directed immediately to the right place.  Do check out the website which has lots of new information on it.

 Crèche

Thank you to those who volunteered to help in the crèche.  We still need a couple more people to staff the rota adequately.  Please speak to Greg or Kate if you are willing to help.  The crèche will start early in the new year once the necessary checks have taken place.

Fran and Greg

Fran and Greg are very grateful for all the good wishes and messages of sympathy received over this last week, following the very sudden death of Fran’s brother last weekend.  Thankfully, Greg’s mom seems to be recovering steadily following her serious car accident.  Your continued prayers are much appreciated.

 Congratulations

To Tracey and Ruth on the baptism of Raffi which took place last Sunday.

Christmas Services

Please do take a leaflet with the times of Christmas services, noting that the Carol Service takes place on Sunday 15th December at 6 p.m. not as advertised.

 Nightingales

Many thanks to all those who supported the Nightingales concert last week.  Special thanks to David Griffiths for all his hard work in organizing this wonderful event.  Nearly £400 was raised towards church funds

 Junior Church

Tracy Huckfield has agreed to take over the role as co-ordinator of Junior Church.  She and Frances will jointly lead the team over the coming term before Tracy takes up the reins after Easter.  We would warmly encourage new volunteers to join this happy team in such a rewarding ministry.  Do speak to Tracy or Frances if you feel called to do this.

Nelson Mandela

The Cathedral is to hold a service on Sunday 15th December at 4pm which will celebrate the life of Nelson Mandela. “Reflecting Coventry’s commitment for many years to the building of peace and reconciliation across the world, our Cathedral is an especially appropriate place to celebrate the life of such a significant and inspirational figure,” explained the Revd Canon Dr David Stone, Canon Precentor.  The service, which will begin at 4pm, will include an address by the Bishop of Coventry.
