30th March 2014
St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
To all mothers on this Mothering Sunday. There is no Junior Church this morning, but the crèche will run as normal.
Thank you to Fran, Marguerite and Rosemarie for serving refreshments at yesterday’s Gift Day. Thanks all to those who supported the Gift Day by their generosity. It is still not too late to give to this exciting new phase of StAPH’s ministry by placing any donation in a blue envelope and writing ‘Gift Day’ on the front.
St. Andrew’s is hosting an exciting May Day event on the park in Allesley Green at the far end of the parish on Monday 5th May from 1-9pm. There will be music (brass band, Parkhill School choir and contemporary rock band); morris dancing, maypole dancing, donkey rides, fairground rides and many stalls. The organising committee (Julia, Emma, Fran, Richard, Greg and Lindsey) would be pleased to hear from anyone willing to help out on the day, by setting up, running a stall or acting as a steward. Also, one of the church’s events will be the PLANT STALL for which we would like the donation of plants and helpers to man the stall. If you can help please let Trevor Hill or David
Under 30s Home Group
A home group for adults aged 18-30 is being launched this Wednesday evening, 2nd April at 7.30pm at the Vicarage. Anyone interested should contact Dan on 024 7642 2856.
Big Birthday Bash – 7th June
A date for your diary! As part of the Hope 2014 programme in Coventry, there is going to be a ‘Big Birthday Bash’ in Broadgate on Saturday 7th June from 11am – 3pm. There will be stalls celebrating family life, free barbecues, hot drinks, musical entertainment, circus type acts and much more! If you would like to bake a cake, or help in any way, please email Angus Ormes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
To decorate the church for Easter costs a lot of money for the flowers. If you wish to make a donation towards the cost, please see Ann Dove.
Volunteers are required to help decorate the church for Easter on Saturday 19th April at 9am, in the side room. Please let Ann Dove know if you can help.
Palm Sunday’s 10am service will feature a dramatised enactment of the Passion story. If anyone (from 8-85) wishes to help with this, please speak to Greg or Rebecca.
St. Andrew’s will be running Alpha on Thursday evenings at the Vicarage for 10 weeks from 1st May. This course, which has been undertaken by so many, requires no prior knowledge of Christian faith, but is a wonderful introduction to it as well as an opportunity to revisit lessons dimly remembered. It also is a great to get to meet new people and to be more fully immersed in life at St. Andrew’s. Please complete a form from the back table and return to Lesley Harrison or a sidesperson.
As last year, as part of our Holy Week celebrations, we are hosting a Passover Meal in church on Monday 14th April. Everyone (adults and children) is welcome, but for catering purposes it is important to know in advance who is attending. Please sign up on the list at the back of church.
End Hunger Fast
On Friday 4th April, Christians across the nation are fasting to show their solidarity with those around the world who are forced to go hungry through no fault of their own. Please consider joining them.
It is that time of year when we update the electoral roll. Anyone who has been worshiping at St. Andrew’s regularly for the last 6 months or more (including StAPH) should complete a short electoral roll form and return it to Lesley Harrison or one of the sidespersons.
We are close to completing work on the subsidence that has so badly affected St. Andrew’s Church building. That work should be complete by the end of next month. However, despite the incredible generosity of church members and other parishioners, we are approximately £1800 short of the amount we need to pay contractors and engineers. We would be immensely grateful to anyone able to make any further donation to this vital project.
Weekly Offering Envelopes
Boxes of Weekly Offering Envelopes for the tax year beginning in April are now at the back of the church. If you are a tax payer, Gift Aiding benefits our church by enabling us to claim tax relief on your donations at the end of each year. Thanks to all those who have completed Gift Aid Forms and Gift Aid Envelopes (from the back of the pews) we were repaid £7306 by the Inland Revenue for the last Tax Year. Anyone not already giving regularly and who would like Offering Envelopes, or regular givers who are tax payers and would like to complete a Gift Aid Form, please contact Richard Marr (Tel: 01676 522697).
Could you spare a Saturday evening once every other month to eat pizza, play games and hang out with our young people at the 14+ Socials. These relaxed, informal evenings are designed to promote friendship and fellowship between young Christians at St. Andrew’s (and from time to time they invite young people from neighbouring churches too.) If you think you might be interested in helping but want to know more, please speak to Greg or Kate.
We have our regular pattern of Holy Communion at 8am, Worship 4 All at 10am and an Ignatian Service at 6.30pm.
St. Andrew’s continues its short sermon series on prayer this morning. The final part will take place next Sunday at Worship 4 All when the focus will be on the Lord’s Prayer.
Please pray for Brenda & Neville Lawrence, David Davies, John Checkling, Irene Lissaman, Frank Dove, Anne McNulty and Angela Satchwell. To add names to the list please contact Greg or Alex.
