20th April 2014 – Easter Day
St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Crèche & Junior Church
Please note that because of the increased number of babies/toddlers attending St. Andrew’s on Sunday mornings for the 10am service, we have begun to offer a staffed crèche in the side room for the convenience of parents. Also, children of three and upwards are welcome to join Junior Church which meets at St. Andrew’s School (term-time only).
St. Andrew’s Church wishes everyone a truly blessed and joyous Easter.
Easter Thank You
Most grateful and sincere thanks to everyone who willingly gave of their time to decorate the church for Easter. Thanks also to Fay Gibbs for all foliage provided.
Thank you to all who generously gave donations towards the cost of the flowers. Thank you all again, Ann Dove.
Holy Week Services
Thanks to all who have made Easter and Holy Week so special by serving in whatever way.
Thank you to all those who so generously supported our Gift Day for StAPH. The total given was £2601, most of which was gift aided, which means in practice over £3,000 has been raised. This is a magnificent response that confirms God is with us on this new stage of StAPH’s journey. It’s not too late to add your contribution. Gifts may be placed in the blue envelopes and should be clearly marked: Gift Day.
Children’s Society Boxes
The collection has been completed, the money counted and banked, and a fantastic sum of £1261.21 has been sent to the children’s society. Thanks again to you all for your loyal support. Until next March !!!! Jackie Lynch.
Could you spare a Saturday evening once every other month to eat pizza, play games and hang out with our young people at the 14+ Socials. These relaxed, informal evenings are designed to promote friendship and fellowship between young Christians at St. Andrew’s (and from time to time they invite young people from neighbouring churches too.) If you think you might be interested in helping but want to know more, please speak to Greg or Kate.
Could you spare two hours to offer some tutoring? As part of working together with Churches in the area, we are seeking people who would be willing to tutor children from Primary and Secondary school ages who need help with homework/revision. It is likely this would be on a Saturday morning at Tile Hill Youth centre from 10am-12pm. Please see Alex if you are interested.
St. Andrew’s is hosting an exciting May Day event on the park in Allesley Green at the far end of the parish on Monday 5th May from 1-9pm. There will be music (brass band, Parkhill School choir and contemporary rock band); morris dancing, maypole dancing, donkey rides, fairground rides and many stalls. The organising committee (Julia, Emma, Fran, Richard, Greg and Lindsey) would be pleased to hear from anyone willing to help out on the day, by setting up, running a stall or acting as a steward. Also, one of the church’s events will be the plant stall for which we would like the donation of plants and helpers to man the stall. If you can help please let Trevor Hill or David Griffiths know – 01675 442240 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Pastoral Care Team
We are looking to recruit new members for a pastoral care team, those willing to visit those who are sick, bereaved or otherwise in need of a visit. If you would like to know more, please speak to David Griffiths on 01675 442240 or one of the clergy.
The Annual Parochial Church Meeting takes place on Monday 28th April at 7.30pm. Please do come along and hear about all the wonderful things that have been happening over the last 12 months and support those to be elected as churchwardens and to the PCC. The meeting is preceded by a short Holy Communion at 7pm. All welcome.
Burglaries in Eastern Green
Eastern Green residents should be warned that there has been a spate of burglaries in the area, some of them during the day when home owners have been in the garden.
Next Sunday, April 27th, there will be a welcome lunch for Phil Richardson, the new StAPH leader and his wife Ann at Woodlands School after the StAPH service. This is a bring and share lunch from 12 noon onwards. All are welcome.
St. Andrew’s will be running Alpha on Thursday evenings at the Vicarage for 10 weeks from May 1st. This course, which has been undertaken by so many, requires no prior knowledge of Christian faith, but is a wonderful introduction to it as well as an opportunity to revisit lessons dimly remembered. It also is a great to get to meet new people and to be more fully immersed in life at St. Andrew’s. Please complete a form from the back table and return to Lesley Harrison or a sidesperson.
We are looking for someone to take on the responsibility of co-ordinating our Christian Aid collection. There is an opportunity to shadow David and Frances this year, before taking on full responsibility next year. Anyone who feels they might be able to do this should speak to David or Frances.
The following items have been requested by staff at the Tile Hill foodbank: sugar, coffee, milk, juice, toilet rolls and jam. Many thanks to all those who give so generously and to Rory for conscientiously delivering on our behalf.
Dog Food Free to a Good Home
John Ross-Barnard has the equivalent of a sackful, decanted into plastic screw top containers, of AUTARKY Chicken dog food. Please speak to John if you are able to relieve him of this food, which his dog has not taken to.
St. Andrew’s will be a hosting a service with anointing and prayer for healing on Sunday May 11th at 6.30pm.
A prayer tree has been introduced at the back of church. Please feel free to place prayer requests on the tree using the tags in the nearby basket. These requests will be prayed for by members of the prayer team and hopefully others. Any questions about the prayer tree should be addressed to Bev Randle-Bissell.
