8th June 2014
St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Crèche & Junior Church
Please note that because of the increased number of babies/toddlers attending St. Andrew’s on Sunday mornings for the 10 a.m. service, we have begun to offer a staffed crèche in the side room for the convenience of parents. Also, children of three and upwards are welcome to join Junior Church which meets at St. Andrew’s School (during term-time only).
David and Frances Hawkey
Today is the last Sunday David & Frances will worship at St. Andrew’s before their move to Newbury later this month. We will miss them enormously. The principal focus for our farewell will be the Strawberry Tea next Sunday afternoon, but we do pray God’s richest blessing on them as they prepare for their move.
We are looking for one or two people to volunteer to deliver the Link magazine on an ad hoc basis to cover for holidays. If you are able to help in this way, please speak to Barbara Warner, 024 7640 3458.
St. Andrew’s is partnering with other local churches to open a credit union collection point at St. Oswald’s Church on Friday mornings from 10-12 noon, beginning on 27th June. Anyone able to give up a couple of hours to staff the collection point on a rota basis should speak to Greg. Full training will be given in the fairly elementary record keeping.
With the exception of Worship 4 All, sermons are now regularly being recorded on Sunday mornings. If you want to hear a sermon again or are away and want to catch up, please visit the website. Nearly 100 people have already accessed this page on the website. Do let us know if you are having any problems with this or if you find it especially helpful.
St. Andrew’s is hoping to take a party to Spring Harvest next year from April 6th (Easter Monday)-10th. Spring Harvest is hosted by Butlins in Minehead and has a wonderful and varied Christian programme, suitable for all ages. If you want to know more, you are warmly invited to a BBQ at the Vicarage on Friday 13th June at 7 p.m. Please let Greg or Fran know you are intending to come along for catering purposes.
Fasting and Prayer
Approximately 10 people responded to our 10 day challenge to fast and pray during the period between Pentecost and Ascension, please visit the church website: http://standrews-eg.org.uk to find out more.
4 p.m. Service
From September, St. Andrew’s is looking to launch a monthly service at 4 p.m. on one Sunday a month. Nick Tooby has agreed to head up a team. If you would like to volunteer for this team, please speak to Nick or Greg. We are looking for people who will lead services or prayers, do readings, lead activities or just help practically with refreshments or welcoming people.
St. Andrew’s is working in partnership with other local churches to set up ‘Messy Church’, a family friendly interactive experience that has a national profile and many churches across the city are running successfully. We are looking for 2 or 3 people to represent St. Andrew’s on the team to run the service on a monthly basis on Sunday afternoons. You wouldn’t have to lead worship or speak publically necessarily. There is room for people to cook or lead craft activities with children as well as musicians etc. If you want to know more, please speak to Greg.
Please note that there are two members of the Healing Team available every Sunday, usually sitting in the choir stalls, to pray with people after the service as required. Do take advantage of this if you have any prayer needs.
Many thanks to all those who collected for Christian Aid this year. The total raised was in excess of £2100. Special thanks to David Hawkey who has co-ordinated our Christian Aid response for so many years.
St. Andrew’s Holiday Club
We are running a summer holiday club from 9.30am-12.15pm on 23rd- 25th July for primary school aged children, with games, songs, crafts. If you would be able to help at holiday club, either as a leader or to prepare and serve the mid-morning snack, please speak to Rebecca Martin, Victoria Kaczur or Kate Massey.
Churchyard Flowerbed Tidy-up
Volunteers are required to help with tidying the flowerbed at the front of church on Saturday 14th June anytime between 9am & noon. No experience required – just enthusiasm. Please bring your own gardening implements. Thanks in anticipation, Trevor.
Our monthly Ignatian Service takes place tonight at 6.30 p.m. led by Alex and Kate Dagger. This hour long service offers the opportunity to take part in compline, the evening office and for meditation. Join us if you can.
Big Birthday Bash
Takes place in Broadgate on Saturday 7th June from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m. to celebrate Pentecost. There is entertainment, stalls, kids tents and a free BBQ. The organisers are also looking for contributors to a huge birthday cake. Please speak to Greg or visit http://www.coventrypentecost.com/bake.php if you are able to help with this.
