Pews News – 27th July 2014

27th July 2014 – 6th Sunday after Trinity

Welcome
St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality.  You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Crèche
Please note that because of the increased number of babies/toddlers attending St. Andrew’s on Sunday mornings for the 10am service, we have begun to offer a staffed crèche in the side room for the convenience of parents.

Summer Communion
Through the summer communion services are designed to be child friendly, 50 minutes in length and allow the children and young people to participate. There is no Junior Church until September, but crèche will run as usual.

Spring Harvest
St. Andrew’s is hoping to take a party to Spring Harvest next year from April 6th (Easter Monday)-10th. Spring Harvest is hosted by Butlins in Minehead and has a wonderful and varied Christian programme, suitable for all ages. If you want to know more, please speak to Greg or Fran or see brochure at the back of church ASAP.

Projector Rota
We are looking for volunteers to operate the laptop which projects powerpoint etc. onto the screens on a rota basis. Anyone who is interested should speak to Greg or Steve Martin.

100th Anniversary Service
On Monday 4th August at 7pm St. Andrew’s will be hosting a special service to commemorate Britain’s entry into the First World War. Please see website for further details.

Hymn Books
We are looking to add 20 additional hymn books to our store, and so are inviting individual members of the congregation to sponsor a copy at the cost of £8 each. Please contact our administrator, Julie, on 07756 918847 or administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk with details of any dedication required. Donations should either be given to Jackie Lynch or placed on the collection plate in a clearly marked envelope.

4pm Service
From September, St. Andrew’s is looking to launch a monthly service at 4pm on one Sunday a month. Nick Tooby has agreed to head up a team. If you would like to volunteer for this team, please speak to Nick or Greg. We are looking for people who will lead services or prayers, do readings, lead activities or just help practically with refreshments or welcoming people.

Coffee Shop
The PCC agreed last week to support a project to open a Christian run coffee shop on this side of the city. We are now looking for volunteers to sit on the board of the management committee. If you are interested, please see Greg for more information.

Messy Church
St. Andrew’s is working in partnership with other local churches to set up ‘Messy Church’, a family friendly interactive experience that has a national profile and many churches across the city are running successfully. We are looking for 2 or 3 people to represent St. Andrew’s on the team to run the service on a monthly basis on Sunday afternoons.  You wouldn’t have to lead worship or speak publically necessarily. There is room for people to cook or lead craft activities with children as well as musicians etc. If you want to know more, please speak to Greg.

Pianists
Are there any accomplished pianists in the congregation who would be willing to play at services on an occasional basis? If so, please speak to George Cooke, our organist.

Walking Across Wales
St. Andrew’s is planning to walk across Wales on Sat Sept 20th.  The walk entails 45 miles of undulating countryside starting at the Welsh border and finishing on the coast near Harlech.  We are looking for people who would be willing to do the whole walk; just walk one or more stages of approx 8 miles or be part of the support team, providing transport, refreshments and encouragement along the way.  The event is designed to be both fellowship building as well as a fundraising venture. For further details please speak to Greg or Fran.

Drama Workshop
There will be a 2 day drama workshop run by St. Andrew’s at the Jardine Youth Centre on Monday 4th August and Tuesday 5th for young people aged 8+. Please see Greg for further details.

Church Autumn Fayre
On Saturday 6th September, 11am-2pm, the church fayre is being held in St.Andrew’s School hall. We need help running the various stalls and contributions towards the stalls including cakes, bottles for tombola (see below), unwanted gifts, bric a brac, toys, books, plants, raffle prizes, chocolate for tombola etc. Any new ideas very welcome, but mostly we need your support. See Jackie, Barbara, Julia or Fran. Thank you in anticipation.

Bottle Tombola
As mentioned above, the choir will, as usual, be running the Bottle Tombola. We would be very grateful for any contributions of bottles of anything …. shampoo, washing up liquid, squash … in fact anything in a bottle! Wine etc more than welcome as it encourages the punters to spend their money! Please contact me, George or Beryl or any choir member if you can help. Many thanks in anticipation. Barbara Warner (024 7640 3458/07846 288036) – collection can be arranged.

They have archery, woodland adventures, a live owl show, story-telling, cooking, smoothie making, sowing and art and crafts. All activities will be presented by professionals but volunteers are needed to move the children around and generally keep an eye on them. All activities will take place in and around St. Oswald’s community hall. They will begin at 9am and finish around 3pm, and are looking for people who could do any amount of sessions and would be grateful if you could do just one session for them. In the first instance if you are interested or want to know more call Anna Marie on 02476850068 or email stoswaldadvice@yahoo.co.uk
