Pews News – 16th November 2014

16th November 2014 – 2nd Sunday before Advent

St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Barn Dance
There will be a Barn Dance, including a hot dog supper at Eastern Green Village Hall on Saturday 22nd November at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Barbara Warner (024 7640 3458 or 07846 288036) and cost £8 for adults and £4 for children. Do join us for what is always a great fun evening. Today is the last day to buy tickets.

Greetings Cards for Prisoners of Conscience
For the last few years a group of us have met to write a message of hope and support to people wrongfully imprisoned for their beliefs. Amnesty International provides an excellent booklet detailing all the names etc of the prisoners. So do join us, if you can, on Monday 24th November at 7pm at the Vicarage to write some cards. These will be provided and there will be wine, coffee and mince pies etc. Donations towards the cost of cards and postage are most welcome. David Griffiths and Flix Haynes.

Doris Pratt
Thanks to all those who contributed to a very moving Thanksgiving service for Doris on Wednesday.

The Finance committee will shortly be setting the budget for 2015 and we wanted to take this opportunity to thank those who give so generously to the work of the church. We are especially grateful to those who make a regular commitment to allow us to plan and to claim many thousands in tax rebate through gift aid.

Projector Rota
We are grateful to Paul Crowe and Lesley Lee for volunteering to join the rota for operating the sound system and powerpoint. Anyone else willing to help should speak to Steve Martin or Steve Wankling.

Our Missionary partners, Dan and Philippa Munday who are working in Nepal have undertaken to send us fortnightly updates by e-mail. These updates will be posted on the noticeboard at the back of church for prayer. If you would like to receive these updates directly by e-mail, please contact Julie Crow at

In the three and a half years Coventry foodbank has been opened we a have distributed 50,000 food parcels to those in crisis in our City. The work of the foodbank rely on us being able to collect food from the general public through our supermarket collections. This November we have our Tesco National Collection on Thursday 27th, Friday 28th & Saturday 29th November where we will be collecting at the four main Tesco supermarkets in the City; Cannon Park, The Ricoh, Clifford Bridge Rd and Crosspoint. Volunteers are needed to help us give out shopping lists and others to collect the items purchased for us. We run four, two hour sessions each day starting at 9.00am. Times are 9.00am till 11.00am, 11.00am till 1.00pm, 1.00pm till 3.00pm and 3.00pm till 5.00pm. To volunteer or for further info please contact Hugh McNeill: email or phone 024 7663 3500.

Volunteers Needed
Coventry Churches will once again be hosting the Coventry Winter Night Shelter from 1st December 2014 to 31st March 2015 and needs volunteers to make it work. The project looks to provide shelter and warmth to those living on the streets through the coldest winter nights. In addition to the running costs for this project, we look also to raise funds to enable us to help our ‘rough sleeper’ guests find more sustainable accommodation. If you can volunteer your time or help in any way, please contact
