Pews News – 30th November 2014

30th November 2014 – St. Andrew’s Day & First Sunday of Advent

St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Please note that because of the increased number of babies/toddlers attending St. Andrew’s on Sunday mornings for the 10am service, we have begun to offer a staffed crèche in the side room for the convenience of parents.

Special Welcome
To the children, parents and staff of St. Andrew’s School who are joining us this morning to help us celebrate St. Andrew’s Day.

Special Welcome
Also to Lorna Sergiew, Laura Martin, Becky Crowe, Rebecca Tildesley and Jill Pinks who were confirmed at Coventry Cathedral yesterday.

Cost is £5 and please bring your own packed lunch. If you would like to come, there is a sign-up sheet at the back of Church. Hope to see you there – Alex.

Divorce Recovery Course: Restored Lives from 29th January – 12th February 2015
This course supports and empowers people to move forward from relationship breakdown and to live a full life free from past issues. It is open to everyone, whatever your religion or belief. Each evening begins at 7pm with an informal meal followed by short talks and opportunities for discussion in small groups. These are led by people who have gone through divorce themselves. The setting is welcoming, relaxed and unthreatening. Although it may feel like it, you are not alone. Come along and meet people in a similar situation and listen to expert advice. For more information contact Tricia on 07919080266 or email or Greg on 02476 422856 or email .

Projector Rota
We are grateful to Paul Crowe and Lesley Lee for volunteering to join the rota for operating the sound system and powerpoint. Anyone else willing to help should speak to Steve Martin or Steve Wankling.

Toy Service
Next week, we will be hosting our annual Toy Service. You are encouraged to bring an unwrapped child’s toy, which will be distributed via Coventry City Mission to children in the city who will otherwise be without at Christmas.

Pram Service
Our fortnightly Pram Service next takes place on Tuesday 9th December at 9.15am in church.  The service is designed for parents/carers and their pre-school children. This will be Kate’s last service and the last of 2014.

140th Anniversary
2015 sees the 140th anniversary of the founding of St. Andrew’s Church in 1875. The celebration begins on Sunday 25th January at 10am with a special service presided over by the Archdeacon of Coventry.

Kate Massey
Please note that 25th January will also see Kate’s licensing as the new Vicar of St Paul’s Stockingford at 3pm. Her farewell service will take place on Sunday 14th December at 10am followed by lunch in the Eastern Green club to which all are invited. However, for catering purposes, we need to know numbers, so please put your name on the sheet at the back of church by 9th December.

Shoebox Appeal
Many thanks to all those who contributed so generously to our shoebox appeal. Over 100 boxes were collected in all. Special thanks to Jill and David Joyce for co-ordinating the appeal yet again for us.

Ward Forum
The Woodlands Ward Forum meets on Thursday 4th December at 7pm at Eastern Green club.  The Deputy Leader of Coventry City Council will be attending the meeting to answer questions about the proposed housing development to the north of Eastern Green Lane.  There is also a petition about this development at the back of church for objectors to sign.

Darkness to Light
We will be marking the start of Advent tonight with our traditional Darkness to Light service at 6.30pm. This atmospheric candle lit service was very well attended last year and is a wonderful celebration of Jesus as the Light of the World.

Youth Alpha Pudding
We are looking to provide Jelly and ice-cream on Monday 1st December for 40 young people who are learning about the Christian faith through youth alpha. If you are able to help with this, please speak to Greg or Phil Richardson.
