7th December 2014 – Second Sunday of Advent
St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Please note that because of the increased number of babies/toddlers attending St. Andrew’s on Sunday mornings for the 10am service, we have begun to offer a staffed crèche in the side room for the convenience of parents.
We are still looking for volunteers to join the rota for operating the sound system and powerpoint. Anyone else willing to help should speak to Steve Martin or Steve Wankling.
Many thanks to all those kindly donated toys this week. These will be distributed via Coventry City Mission to children in the city who will otherwise be without at Christmas.
Our fortnightly Pram Service takes place on Tuesday 9th December at 9.15am in church. The service is designed for parents/carers and their pre-school children. This will be Kate’s last service and the last of 2014.
Link Thank You Party
We want to say a big ‘thank you’ to all those who deliver the Link magazine, rain or shine, each month; and so there is a social evening on Monday 15th in the sideroom at 7pm. All Link deliverers warmly welcomed.
Anyone willing to act as sidesperson at the carol service on 21st Decembert or Midnight Communion on 24th December should speak to Greg. We will also need readers at the Midnight Service.
2015 sees the 140th anniversary of the founding of St. Andrew’s Church in 1875. The celebration begins on Sunday 25th January at 10am with a special service during which Greg will formally be inducted as Vicar by the Archdeacon of Coventry.
Please note that 25th January will also see Kate’s licensing as the new Vicar of St Paul’s Stockingford at 3pm. Her farewell service will take place on Sunday 14th December at 10am followed by lunch in the Eastern Green club to which all are invited. However, for catering purposes, we need to know numbers, so please put your name on the sheet at the back of church by 9th December.
Many thanks to all those who contributed so generously to our shoebox appeal. Over 100 boxes were collected in all. Special thanks to Jill and David Joyce for co-ordinating the appeal yet again for us.
Volunteers Age UK
Every Christmas, Age UK Coventry receives donations from local organisations and schools whose employees/students donate a Christmas gift that we deliver in the form of hampers to older, isolated people in Coventry to bring them some Christmas Cheer. If you are able to donate some time from Monday 8th to Wednesday 24th December to help with gift-wrapping the hampers to delivering them in the community we would greatly appreciate your support. Please contact me at your earliest opportunity on 02476 433980 or email email@example.com for more details.
A Christmas Celebration on Bannerbrook Park (outside the shops)
