Pews News – 15th February 2015

15th February 2015 – Sunday next before Lent

Welcome
St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Crèche
Please note that because of the increased number of babies/toddlers attending St. Andrew’s on Sunday mornings for the 10am service, we have begun to offer a staffed crèche in the side room for the convenience of parents.

Special Welcome
To Lesley Lee who is being officially licensed to the parish as a Reader. Welcome also to Heidi Cartledge, who is preaching on Reader Ministry and Paul Mileham who will be officiating at the licensing.

Tea and Coffee
From next Sunday, tea and coffee will be served in the church. We have introduced this to persuade more people to stay after the service for fellowship. Please do take the opportunity to stay for a few minutes to meet people.

Home Communion
We are exploring the possibility of developing a team to take home communion to the housebound. Anyone who would like to train for this vital ministry should speak to Greg. Also, if you know of anyone who might like to receive home communion, let Greg know.

Home Groups
We continue our sermon series next week on Home Groups:
Feb 8th             Sue Masters                 Home Groups and discipleship
Feb 22nd           Greg Smith                  Home Groups and pastoral care
March 1st         Greg/Sue                     Home Groups and mission
Please speak to Sue if you want to know more.

Projector Rota
We are still looking for volunteers to join the rota for operating the sound system and powerpoint. Anyone else willing to help should speak to Steve Martin or Steve Wankling.

Drama Course
A 5 week drama course for 8-14 year olds will take place at Jardine Youth Centre on Mondays from 5.30-6.30pm starting 2nd March. Please see Greg, Selina or Ben for further details.

Spring Harvest
The party from St. Andrew’s attending Spring Harvest from April 6th-10th at Minehead are still hoping that others might join us. Four nights self catering at Butlins with access to an amazingly full programme of teaching, worship (led by Graham Kendrick), leisure activities and above all fellowship is £189, reduced rates for children. A week pass without accommodation is £114. If interested, please speak to Greg or Fran. There is a social evening at the Vicarage on Friday 20th March at 7pm for all those going.

Ash Wednesday
In addition to our regular communion service at 10am on Ash Wednesday there will be a further service of Holy Communion with the imposition of ashes at 7pm to mark the start of Lent. All welcome.

Lynda Edwards
Lynda Edwards will be replacing Kate Massey as curate in charge of St Laurence’s Meriden on 23rd February. Lynda’s involvement with St. Andrew’s will be much more limited than Kate’s, only acting as a mentor to the Pram Service. She also has responsibility for Coventry’s Deaf congregation which meets at Christ Church, Cheylesmore.

Andrew Rodgers
Andrew has kindly written down his life story (testimony) to share with others. Copies of this are available at the back of church for anyone who would like to read this moving account.

StAPH
Our church plant that meets at Woodlands School has moved. It is now in the more comfortable and more accessible venue of the Sixth Form Block at the school just to the left of the main gate.  The services take place on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Sundays of the month at 10.30am.

Beetle Drive
Please put our Beetle Drive on your calendars. This will take place at Park Hill School on Friday 6th March. Tickets are available from Emma Read or Julie on 07756 918847 at a cost of £3 for adults or £2 for children, with family tickets at £8.

Lent Course
It feels like Christmas has just ended and already we are planning for Easter at St. Andrew’s! This year we will be running a Lent course on Tuesday afternoons over the five weeks of Lent. This will be an opportunity to come together to reflect on the Passion of Christ using the Bible, reflections and group discussions. We begin on Tuesday 24th February, and the sessions will start at 2pm and finish by 3.30pm. This is a great opportunity to go deeper into the crucifixion narratives and to think afresh about the unconditional sacrifice made by Christ for each one of us. All are welcome and if you have never been to a Lent group or to a Bible study group why not come along and be part of this group during Lent. It would be helpful to have some idea of numbers. Please let Greg or Sue Masters (susanmasters@sky.com) know if you are interested.

Ladies Fellowship
Our next meeting is on Tuesday 17th February from 1.30-3pm in the church side room. New members are always welcome, just come along on the day (50p per visit, includes tea or coffee and biscuits).

Children’s Society Boxes
It’s that time of year again. I will be collecting the boxes throughout February. Please bring yours to church if you can, otherwise I will collect from you at some time in the month. Thank you for your continuing support. Jackie Lynch, 024 7646 7344.
