5th April 2015 – Easter Day
St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
A very blessed and holy Easter to our members and visitors. May the joy of the resurrection be yours through this Eastertide.
The church’s Annual General Meeting takes place on Monday April 20th at 7.30pm preceded by Holy Communion at 7pm. Please note the change of date for this. If anyone would like to stand for PCC, please speak to Greg about this. Do come along to the annual meeting, which is a great chance to hear all that the church has been about over the last 12 months; and a good way of showing your support to all those who work so hard.
We are sorry to announce the death of Neville Lawrence at the age of 87 on Monday evening. His funeral will take place the week commencing 13th April in church. Please pray for Brenda and the rest of the family at this sad time.
St. Andrew’s Holiday Club
St. Andrew’s Church is running a Holiday Club on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th April from 9.30am to 12.30pm. There will be lots of crafts, games, stories and songs. Details and a registration form can be found on the flyer pinned on the noriceboard at the back of church or on the church website.
Please note there will be an Ignatian Service (Easter Day) this evening at 6.30pm.
May Day in Allesley Green
St. Andrew’s is organizing a second Fun Day in Allesley Green on Monday May 4th from 1pm to 5pm. If you are willing to help with this by staffing a game or stall, please speak to Greg or email Julie at firstname.lastname@example.org or telephone 07756 918847. We have a particular need for a qualified first aider. Again, please let us know if you are available to help with this for some or all of the time.
Holy Week Services
Many thanks to those who helped to make Holy Week such a powerful experience by contributing to the many services through leadership, reading, playing music etc.
Pastoral Care Cards
As part of the Pastoral Care Group, cards are sent to bereaved, people who are ill in hospital or home, lonely or depressed to let them know that we at St. Andrew’s care and are thinking of them. If you know any person who would appreciate a card please let me know. Thank you, Ann Dove.
An Evening of Poetry and Prose
To take place on Saturday 9th May from 7.30pm until 10ish at Eastern Green Village Hall. Cheese, wine and soft drinks will be provided. Please Phone Stephen or Eileen Warne on 024 7647 1350 if you would be willing to contribute. Tickets cost £8 and are available at St. Andrew’s from Rita Muir and StaPH from Eileen Warne.
The Foodbank have requested donations of the following items. Tins of: meat, fish, rice pudding and custard; jars of: pasta sauce, coffee and jam; toilet rolls, tooth brushes, toothpaste and kitchen roll.
Due to my illness, it is nearly a year since there was a Fairtrade sales table in church. I hope to ‘start up again’ on 19th April and continue sales as before, on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month. Fairtrade (Traidcraft) is a great charity, which helps producers get a fairer price for their products. This enables them and their families to have a better life style, with money for educating their children, better housing, a safer water supply etc. Please do support the Fairtrade sales in church, even if you only want to buy a chocolate bar once a month! Vulnerable Mission Conference
Avoiding Dependency in Global Christian Mission…Vulnerable Mission a potential answer. On 18th April a conference is being held in Coventry for anyone in the West Midlands, involved in cross-cultural mission or interested in supporting it, to discuss some of these issues and to see how they impact on our support. Please see the flier at the back of church for further details.
Your Churchyard Needs You !!
Volunteers are needed to tackle the overgrown border between the church & the school house. Please come with garden implements on Saturday 11th April from 9.30am onwards.
The Plant Sale will take place in St. Andrew’s Church on Saturday 9th May between the hours of 10am and 12pm. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be made available and there will be a raffle. For further information please contact either Trevor Hill or David Griffiths.
The next Messy Church is on the 26th April at St. Oswald’s Church between 3.30pm and 5.30pm. This month’s theme is “Loving Easter”. There will be lots of fun activities in the main hall for all the family including making “Messy Crosses” involving paint splattering, making junk model angels, bead bracelets, woven placemats and decorating Easter cards, plus many more activities to celebrate Easter. After the activities the families will meet in the main church for a short celebration followed by a party tea with food and drinks for all.
The Besom in Coventry
Poverty, isolation, abuse, ill health, injustice, homelessness: we all see the sharp inequalities of life around us and the devastating impacts they have on people’s lives. Many of us want to do something, to get involved but we don’t always know how. There is a meeting for all young musicians (8-21), singers and instrumentalists in church on Saturday 18th April at 6.30pm with a view to incorporating more young people in our worship. All abilities welcome.
We are still keen to recruit an additional person to operate the Powerpoint on the fourth Sunday of the month. Anyone willing to consider this should speak to Greg or Steve Martin.
Please note that Greg and Fran will be away from 6th-10th April at Spring Harvest. Also, Julie, the Parish Administrator, will be on holiday from 3rd-13th April. There will be no Pews News on Sunday 12th April. Please contact Alex on 07717 778853 in an emergency.
