Pews News – 6th September 2015

6th September 2015 – Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity

St. Andrew’s Church welcomes all-comers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Sad News
We regret to announce the death of Barbara Anderson on 15th August. Barbara has been a member of St. Andrew’s for many years, although not attending in recent years because of her battle with Leukemia. She was a loyal member of the choir. There will be a Thanksgiving Service for Barbara and her husband Peter, who died very recently, on Thursday 10th September at 11am at St. Andrew’s. Our condolences also go to Steve Wankling on the loss of his mother, May, whose funeral will take place on Tuesday 15th September at 11am.

Coventry Way
On September 12th, a party from St. Andrew’s will be walking the Coventry Way. This is a forty mile path that circuits the city, mainly through fields and off road paths, and unlike last year’s venture is entirely flat! You are invited to consider walking some or all the route, mindful that we will be raising funds for both St. Andrew’s and the Laura Centre (a charity that provides support to bereaved children and parents who have lost children). We are immensely grateful for those who have volunteered to be part of the support group. Anyone who can walk 3 miles an hour is welcome to join us for this. Please see Greg for further information. A sponsor form is now available at the back of church.

Autumn Fayre
This will be held in the village hall on September 19th, 10am to 1pm. We need help in lots of ways. Setting up and clearing afterwards. Manning stalls and providing cakes, unwanted gifts, bric a brac, chocolate and bottles for the tombolas, raffle prizes and anything else I haven’t thought of! Please let me know if you can help. All proceeds are for church funds, so even if you can’t help, please come along to support us, and bring your friends and family and anyone else you see walking along the road! SPREAD THE WORD. Jackie Lynch.

Reconciling a Wounded Planet
Is a major environmental Conference taking place at Coventry Cathedral on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th September. (A poster and further information can be found in the red folder at the back of church). For details of the speakers and booking please see Everyone is invited to these two events. Volunteers are needed to help with catering, stewarding etc. If you would like to help, please speak to Dawn Easthope or email

Alpha and Alpha Catering
An Alpha course will be taking place in September on Thursday evenings from 24th September through to the first week of December. Alpha entails a simple meal, short talk on a topic connected to the Christian faith and group discussion in a small group in a friendly atmosphere. It provides a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the faith for enquirers, a chance to brush up on the basics for many others and a great chance to meet new people and make new friends in the church. Please speak to Steve Warne or Sue Masters if you would like to know more or email to reserve a place. If you would be willing to cater for one evening (either 24th September or 26th November) please contact the Parish Administrator on 07756 918847 or
