A group of six walkers from St. Andrew’s successfully completed the 40 mile circular Coventry Way walk on Saturday 12th September. Starting at the Queen’s Head at Meriden at 5.30am, Graham, Selina, Veronika, Greg, Gary and Sue set out in an intermittent drizzle that persisted for the first few hours before the weather cleared into a beautiful afternoon. Nearly 15 hours later, the party returned foot sore and weary back to the Queen’s Head, mission accomplished.
We are very grateful to our fellow walkers who may not have completed the whole route, but were heroes nonetheless in their great efforts. Meanwhile, John, Connie and Paul spent the whole day following us around, providing a welcome rest, tea, jelly babies and great encouragement along the way. The route took us through some of
the most beautiful parts of Warwickshire, including Stoneleigh, Bubbenhall, Wolston, Ryton, Bretford, Brinklow, Ansty, Bedworth and Corley.
We hope to raise £1500 in sponsorship shared jointly between the church and the Laura Centre, providing care for bereaved children in Coventry.
Look out for next year’s St. Andrew’s Challenge. Perhaps you can be part of it!
Below are some photos from the day and photos from the presentation of the cheque for £800 to Susie Martin from the Laura Centre. Further pictures have been put on the noticeboard at the back of church.
