Pews News – 18th October 2015

18th October 2015 – Twentieth Sunday after Trinity

St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Many thanks to all those who supported this year’s Harvest by being produce to decorate the church, food stuff for the Tile Hill foodbank and donations for the work of Christian Aid in Mali.

My sincere apologies to Fay Gibbs and Alan Letten, who provide all the foliage for the windows, for omitting their names when I thanked everyone for helping decorate the church. Sorry again, Ann Dove.

Darren Bovis-Coulter
Please pray for the new minister of Limbrick Wood Baptist Church, Darren Bovis-Coulter, who begins his ministry this morning. We pray for ongoing fruitful relationships between the two churches. Please also pray for Ralph Hangar who came to preach at St. Andrew’s a few months ago, and is undergoing surgery this week.

Drama Club
Drama club has been cancelled this term due to lack of take up.

We still require volunteers for the coffee rota, or it may not be possible to continue to offer refreshments after the service every Sunday. Please contact Jill Joyce if you are able to help at

Please note that our website has been upgraded to include video footage for weddings and Pram Service. All feedback welcomed

Barn Dance
Saturday 21st November in the Village Hall at 7.30 pm. £8 Adults and £4 children (13 and under) includes hot dog supper and light refreshments. Bring your own drinks and glasses. A really fun night not to be missed. Tickets available from Barbara Warner 07846 288036/02476 403458/ from 1st November.

Coventry Way
Six walkers successfully completed the 40 miles of the Coventry Way walk on September 12th, raising funds for St. Andrew’s and the Laura Centre (which supports bereaved children). We are very grateful to everyone who was so kind as to sponsor us. If you haven’t already paid up, do please put your donation into the basket at the back of church and cross your names off the sponsor list. If you didn’t get chance to sponsor us, it’s still not too late to make a donation. We will be closing the appeal next Sunday, October 25th.

Plans are afoot to host Nativity III in December, a live age action rendering of the Nativity story in the church and surrounding area, involving adults and children. Greg would be pleased to hear from children (over the age of 8) and adults who would like to participate either by performing or helping backstage (no experience or special expertise necessary). Please reserve December 17th and 18th in your diaries for what promises to be a very special event.

Village Hall AGM
The Eastern Green Village Hall is holding its AGM on Wednesday 21st October at 8.10pm at the Village Hall. Anyone who lives in Eastern Green, Allesley Green or Bannerbrook Park is very welcome to attend. There are exciting plans for the Village Hall and it would be very helpful if members of the community came to listen.

If anyone has a tweed cape or tweed suit or plus fours that they would be willing to lend to the church, please speak to Rebecca Martin.

Welcome Team
There will be a brief meeting of the Welcome Team after the morning service.

Messy Church
The Messy Church that St. Andrew’s supports in Tile Hill takes place this afternoon at 3.30pm at Limbrick Wood Baptist Church. This is a service of craft, story and food aimed at families in the Tile Hill and Eastern Green area. All welcome.

Please note that Greg and Fran will be away next weekend Fri-Sun inclusive on a conference.

Pram Service
Our next Pram Service takes place on Tuesday 27th October at 9.15am. Because it is half term, older children are welcome. The theme is baby in a basket. Craft, stories and song aimed at pre-school children and their carers.

Prayer Tree
Please note that we have acquired a new prayer tree thanks to Jayne Nye. Do take advantage of the prayer tree, remembering to bring prayers of thanksgiving as well as requests

Junior Church
We continue to struggle for Junior Church leaders which seriously affects our ability to ensure a full programme for our much loved children. Please do pray carefully about whether you might be able to offer a couple of Sundays a term to support the Junior Church team. Do speak to Lesley Lee if you want to know more.

Mission Partners
Our latest newsletter from Dan & Philippa Munday, our Mission Partners is at the back of church.

Coventry Cathedral will be hosting a Confirmation Service on Saturday 21st  November at 4pm. Anyone who is interested in pursuing Confirmation (the CofE’s way of welcoming adults into full membership/communion) should speak to Greg.

Prayer before Service
Anyone who would like to pray before the service would be welcome to join the small group in the upper room between 9.40 and 9.50am.

Memorial Service
Our annual Memorial Service in which we remember loved ones who have died in the parish over the last 12 months takes place on Sunday 1st November at 6pm. This is a very moving service in which the congregation is invited to light a candle in memory of their loved ones. Those who have died in the parish or whose funerals have taken place at St. Andrew’s will automatically be remembered by name. We are glad to read the names of any others as requested.  Please contact Julie, our administrator, on 07756 918847 or
