Pews News – 25th October 2015

25th October 2015 – Last after Trinity

St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Please pray for Jonathan who has been hospitalized three times with kidney problems. He is currently convalescing at home and hopes to back working next week.

Morning Prayer
As a result of Jonathan’s illness, it has not been possible to find a replacement priest to offer communion this morning. We are very grateful to Nick Tooby for agreeing to take a service of Morning Prayer at such short notice

Next Week
There will be a said communion at 8am followed by Worship 4 All at 10am to celebrate All Saints Day. There will be no Ignatian Service in the evening because of the Memorial Service.

Christian Aid
A huge thank you to all who contributed to our Harvest collection for the Food Bank and for Mali. As a church we raised £180 which together with Eastern Green School’s contribution of £55 means that we are able to send £235 to Christian Aid for use in the Mali situation.

Drama Club
Drama club has been cancelled this term due to lack of take up.

We still require volunteers for the coffee rota, or it may not be possible to continue to offer refreshments after the service every Sunday. Please contact Jill Joyce if you are able to help at

Please note that our website has been upgraded to include video footage for weddings and Pram Service. All feedback welcomed

Quiz Night
St. Andrew’s are jointly hosting a Quiz Night with the Allesley Green Residents Association on Friday 4th December at 7pm at the Massey Ferguson Concert Room. Barn Dance
A fun-filled evening is promised on Saturday 21st November at the Village Hall when St. Andrew’s Barn Dance takes place. The ticket price of £8 adults and £4 children (13 and under) includes refreshments and a hot dog supper. Please bring your own glasses. Tickets available from Barbara Warner on 024 7640 3458 or 07846 288036 or e-mail

Coventry Way
Six walkers successfully completed the 40 miles of the Coventry Way walk on September 12th, raising funds for St. Andrew’s and the Laura Centre (which supports bereaved children). We are very grateful to everyone who was so kind as to sponsor us. If you haven’t already paid up, do please put your donation into the basket at the back of church and cross your names off the sponsor list. If you didn’t get chance to sponsor us, it’s still not too late to make a donation. We are closing the appeal today.

Plans are afoot to host Nativity III in December, a live age action rendering of the Nativity story in the church and surrounding area, involving adults and children. Greg would be pleased to hear from children (over the age of 8) and adults who would like to participate either by performing or helping backstage (no experience or special expertise necessary). Please reserve December 17th and 18th in your diaries for what promises to be a very special event.

If anyone has a tweed cape or tweed suit or plus fours that they would be willing to lend to the church, please speak to Rebecca Martin.

Please note that Greg and Fran will be away this weekend on a Cursillo conference.

Pram Service
Our next Pram Service takes place on Tuesday 27th October at 9.15am. Because it is half term, older children are welcome. The theme is baby in a basket. Craft, stories and song aimed at pre-school children and their carers.

Prayer Tree
Please note that we have acquired a new prayer tree thanks to Jayne Nye. Do take advantage of the prayer tree, remembering to bring prayers of thanksgiving as well as requests.

Junior Church
We continue to struggle for Junior Church leaders which seriously affects our ability to ensure a full programme for our much loved children. Please do pray carefully about whether you might be able to offer a couple of Sundays a term to support the Junior Church team. Do speak to Lesley Lee if you want to know more.

Mission Partners
Our latest newsletter from Dan & Philippa Munday, our Mission Partners is at the back of church.

Prayer before Service
Anyone who would like to pray before the service would be welcome to join the small group in the upper room between 9.40 and 9.50am.

Memorial Service
Our annual Memorial Service in which we remember loved ones who have died in the parish over the last 12 months takes place on Sunday 1st November 1st at 6pm. This is a very moving service in which the congregation is invited to light a candle in memory of their loved ones. Those who have died in the parish or whose funerals have taken place at St. Andrew’s will automatically be remembered by name. We are glad to read the names of any others as requested. Please contact Julie, our administrator, on 07756 918847 or

Altar Flowers
This week’s altar flowers were kindly donated by Joan Hopkins.
