1st November 2015 – Fourth Sunday before Advent
St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
To Nick Tooby for presiding over last Sunday’s service of Morning Prayer following Jonathan’s illness, thereby allowing Greg and Fran to keep their weekend’s retreat.
A big thank you to all who supported our fund raising event – by either buying our hand-decorated mugs or chocolate fountain. We raised a fantastic amount of £279.46 – from both StAPH and St. Andrew’s congregations. The money will be shared between Lara’s Fund and Teenage Cancer Trust who have supported my friend Lara and her family over the past 15 months. Olivia Wilson.
Next Sunday at 10am we will be hosting our annual Remembrance Sunday service with Holy Communion. Our good friend, Sacha Slavic, will be preaching.
The Diocese has just announced that our former curate, Kate Massey, has been appointed as the Dean of Women’s Ministry. This makes her effectively the most senior woman in the diocese, although the role which entails advising her female colleagues and being part of the Bishop’s core team is in addition to her existing job as Vicar of Stockingford.
Is it that time already? The shops have been decorated for Christmas and the merchandise displayed to start us thinking about Christmas. At St. Andrew’s we too are starting to prepare for Christmas and this year we will be running an Advent Group on Tuesday afternoons over six weeks, from 10th November to 15th December. This will be an opportunity to come together and to set time aside to prepare ourselves for the celebration of that gift given to each of us in the birth of Jesus. We will look at the Bible narratives central to Advent and a reflection written by Bishop Stephen Cottrell. The afternoon will include a time for fellowship and group discussion as we share together. The afternoons will begin at 2pm and finish at 3.30pm and will be at 55 Handsworth Crescent. All are welcome and if you have never been to a small group or to a Bible study group why not come along and be part of this group during Advent. If you want to know more or you are interested in being part of the group please speak with Sue Masters or email me on firstname.lastname@example.org.
We still require volunteers for the coffee rota, or it may not be possible to continue to offer refreshments after the service every Sunday. Please contact Jill Joyce if you are able to help at email@example.com.
Please note that our website http://standrews-eg.org.uk has been upgraded to include video footage for weddings and Pram Service. All feedback welcomed.
