10th January 2016 – First Sunday of Epiphany
St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Many thanks to all those who helped to make Christmas special at St. Andrew’s, performers, readers, sidespersons, choir/band, flower ladies, technical people and so many more.
Many, many thanks to all those who bought toys to put under our Christmas Tree. These were distributed via the Children’s Centre in Tile Hill. The staff at the centre were hugely appreciative of people’s generosity. Please see the letter of thanks at the back of church. The gifts will have made such a difference to many children in the area this Christmas.
Christmas Prize Draw
Many thanks to all who bought and sold tickets for our Christmas Draw. The draw took place after the Carol Service with over 20 prizes won and £343 raised for Church Funds. Nigel Dawes.
Service for Christian Unity
The annual service for Christian Unity for our area takes place at St Oswalds next Sunday 17th January at 6pm. This is an important occasion for Christians of different denominations to express their commitment to each other as a way of encouraging each other and showing the world our unity. Please speak to Sara Parkes, our Transport Officer, or Greg if you would like a lift.
Valentine’s Night Social
Following the success of last year’s Valentine’s dinner, another dinner dance, open to all, will take place on Saturday 13th February at 7pm at Westwood Social Club. Tickets now available from Fran 76422856, Rosemarie 76679512 or Jackie 76467344.
Our first Pram Service of 2016 takes place this Tuesday at 9.15am when we will be thinking about praising God and making our own musical instruments to do this. All pre-school children and their carers are welcome to attend.
Many thanks to Rosemarie Over for agreeing to take on the responsibility of looking after the coffee rota. To assist her, it would be really good to have a couple more volunteers to staff the rota. Please speak to Rosemarie if you would be prepared to help occasionally.
Plans are being finalized to redevelop the porch that serves as the entrance to St. Andrew’s. We have two objectives in mind: to make the church appear more welcoming and to conserve energy. Accordingly, we will glaze the porch, move the oak doors to replace the gate and install more welcoming doors that are part glazed. This project, which has been funded by a generous legacy should enable us to save on our heating consumption, given how much heat is lost on a Sunday by the doors opening and closing. At the same time, during the day when the church is open, it should be possible for people to see inside without having to open the forbidding oak doors first. Anyone who wishes to comment on this project should speak to Trevor Hill.
St. Andrew’s will be running a further Restored Lives course for those who have been through relationship breakdown on Thursday evenings from February 4th (poster at the back of church). Anyone willing to help cater one of the evenings should speak to Fran.
