21st February 2016 – Second Sunday of Lent
St. Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Worship and Encounter
Following our three part sermon series on worship, we are hosting a special worship event ‘Encounter’ tonight, February 21st at 6.30pm with extended times of worship to facilitate our encounter with God, without rushing on to the next thing in the service. Please do come and join us. We have invited guest worship leaders from Westwood Church and we want to welcome them by showing our commitment to worship.
A message from foodbank. The most urgently required items at present are nappies and personal hygiene items.
The annual revision of the electoral roll is soon to take place from February 21st to March 20th. If you are already on the electoral roll at St. Andrew’s, there is no need to do anything. However, if you have joined the church over the last 12 months, we would strongly encourage you to register your membership by joining the roll. See Greg or Lesley Harrison to obtain a form.
Prayer before Service
Anyone who would like to pray before the service would be welcome to join the small group in the choir pews between 9.40 and 9.50am. Please be aware that there is always prayer available after the service for any issue of concern.

St. Andrew’s Lent Group 2016
Christmas not long forgotten and already Easter is upon us! This year we will again be running a small group during Lent where we will spend time together looking at Scripture as we prepare for the significance of Easter. The group will meet on Thursday afternoons over five weeks starting on Thursday 18th February. We will be using the York Lent Course material The Psalms- prayers for today’s church which focuses on five different Psalms over the five weeks. The afternoon will include a time for fellowship and group discussion as we share together. The afternoons will begin at 2.00pm and finish at 3.30pm and will be held at 55 Handsworth Crescent. All are welcome and if you have never been to a small group or to a Bible study group why not come along and be part of this group during Lent. If you want to know more or you are interested in being part of the group please speak with Sue Masters or email me on firstname.lastname@example.org.
Jayne Nye has stepped down as coordinator of the Healing Ministry Team due to work commitments. We are very grateful to Jayne for all that she has done in leading the team over the last 8 months. She will remain a valued part of the team. Lesley Lee has been appointed by the PCC to take over this responsibility. Kate Dagger will be the first point of contact at StAPH.
Hope for Mothering Sunday
Mothering Sunday is a day of great joy for many at our Worship 4 All service on Mothering Sunday, 6th March, we will be celebrating all the good things our mums have brought into our lives. However, for some Mothering Sunday is one of the most difficult days of the year, a day to be endured rather than celebrated. With this in mind, St. Andrew’s is hosting a very special service on 6th March at 4pm. There will be an opportunity to light a candle as an act of healing as parents remember children they have lost through death or estrangement; children remember parents they have lost and would-be parents express their sorrow for the children they have been unable to bear. The readings and liturgy will be appropriate for such an occasion and we invite both those who struggle on Mothering Sunday and those who wish to show their love and support. Anyone who would like to help at this service in any way should speak to Greg.
Please note that St. Andrew’s will be running a Holiday Club for St. Andrew’s and Eastern Green children tomorrow, Monday 22nd February from 9am-3.15pm. This has been arranged to coincide with a Teacher Day for the two schools. The theme of the day led by Greg, Jonathan, Lesley and Selina will be Jonah and the Whale. The cost of the day will be £5, including lunch and drinks. Please bring outdoor footwear and a coat. For further information, please speak to Greg or Lesley today.

A new four part youth drama course will be starting on Monday evenings after half term, starting 22nd February at 5.45pm. Our theme this term will be cartoon characters. Anyone aged 8-12 is welcome. Please speak to Greg or Selina if you wish to know more.
As in previous years, on Palm Sunday, 20th March, we will be staging a re-enactment of the Passion story in our Sunday morning service. Anyone who would like to assist with this, either as a performer or as part of the support crew should speak to Greg or Lesley Lee.
