Pews News – 24th July 2016

24th July 2016 – Ninth Sunday after Trinity

St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Holiday Club
Following a successful holiday club this week, attended by in excess of 20 children, we are featuring their learning in our service this morning. Please make them and their families extra specially welcome this morning.

Family Communion
Through the summer, we will be offering abbreviated communion services, with family friendly activities and liturgy.

Summer Sermon Series
Over the next few weeks, the focus of our services is going to be on faith:

July 31st           The Basics of Faith                 Sue Masters
Aug 7th             Faith in Action                          Greg Smith
Aug 14th           Reasons for Faith                    Sue Masters
Aug 21st           Faith in difficult times                Lesley Lee

It has been confirmed that St Andrew’s is the first church in the diocese to achieve an Eco-church Bronze Award. The certificate was presented at the June Worship 4 All service. Many thanks to Dawn Easthope for her hard work in undertaking all the administration and green championing around our gaining this important recognition. St Andrew’s is also to be presented with a Yew Tree which will be planted by the Bishop of Coventry later in Autumn. Following on from this success, we will be forming a group of people to take us forward into achieving the Silver and Gold awards. Anyone who has an interest or experience in the areas of Worship, Buildings, Land, Community and Lifestyle will be more than welcome. If you are interested in joining the group, please see Dawn Easthope or contact her on 07513753899.

Gift Weekend
Thanks to those who generously gave at the gift weekend. It is not too late to contribute. We are seeking to raise £2,000 to meet a gap in the church budget for this year. In order to give, place an envelope on the plate, but mark it clearly as a contribution to the gift weekend.  All contributions are very gratefully received.

Prayer before Service
Anyone who would like to pray before the service would be welcome to join the small group who do so between 9.40am and 9.50am. We will be meeting upstairs to do this. Please be aware that there is always prayer available after the service for any issue of concern.

Pram Service
Our next Pram Service for babies and toddlers and their parents/carers takes place on Tuesday, 26th July at 9.15am with refreshments served before and afterwards. Stories, songs and a fishing game in this friendly, interactive service. All welcome.

August 21st
Please note that the Sunday service on Aug 21st at 10am will be Morning Prayer (not Holy Communion) led by Lesley and Nick.

Tile Hill Job Club
The Tile Hill Hob Club is now running very successfully, but needs more volunteers who can help people put together a CV and look for work (training can be provided) or serve refreshments, the team is especially keen to find someone who would be willing and able to make bacon sandwiches for job seekers. If you want to know more contact Anne Richardson, or come along Thursdays 2-4pm in St. Oswald’s Church Hall.

Limbrick Wood Prayer Meeting
If anyone would like to join Greg at the Limbrick Wood Baptist Church prayer meeting on Wednesday 3rd August, please speak to him. Lifts are available.

Make Lunch
Please pray for the start of the Make Lunch project that starts on Tuesday of this week. We are attempting to feed up to 30 children who might otherwise go hungry through the summer holidays, deprived of free school meals. This project has been the most successful to date in attracting up to 35 volunteers from 8 different local churches including St Andrew’s. Despite this, prayer remains a vital ingredient in the success of the project.

Sponsored Walk
A party from St Andrew’s will be undertaking a 26 mile sponsored walk on Saturday 1st October, walking the Arden Way, a circular route from Henley in Arden. You are welcome to join us for some or all of the route. Supporters also welcome. For further details, please speak to Greg or Veronika. We are raising funds for the church and for the HanCanFund in support of Hannah Miller, a parishioner who has become wheelchair bound following spinal surgery and needs help in raising funds towards an adapted wet room in her home.

Bottle Stall – Autumn Fayre
The choir will be collecting bottles for this event in the Autumn. When you are shopping could you please consider buying an extra bottle to support us. Please give to any choir member or contact me on the above numbers. Many thanks for your support, Barbara Warner.

Drama Workshop
Please note that there will a 2 day free drama workshop run by Greg, Selina and Emma at Jardine Youth Centre on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th August. The theme is Pirates of Jardine Crescent, with lots of chance to dress up, play drama games and culminating in a performance for parents. Please contact them for further details.

Volunteer with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA)
Since November 2014, BGEA have released two evangelistic My Hope films, The Cross and Second Chance. This November a third evangelistic film will be released for churches in the UK. To maximise coverage, they are looking for people who are called by God to help spread the message. In the Midlands and surrounding areas, we have a number of voluntary positions available – a Regional Prayer Coordinator, Regional Administrator and a number of Area Church Relations Coordinators. Further information can be found in the red folder at the back of church.
