4th September 2016 – Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Junior Church and Crèche
Junior Church meets each week during term time (except for the first Sunday in the month) with Christian learning, games and craft activities for Primary aged children. Babies and pre-school children are looked after in our crèche. We return next Sunday, 11th September for the autumn term.
Next Sunday, we will be celebrating Education Sunday. We will be celebrating and praying for all those working in the field of education, but especially welcoming new families who have joined St Andrew’s School this year. Please make them welcome.
Help Link DeliveryThere is a round on Allesley Green – Cherrywood Grove and Juniper close (65 copies). If there is someone who lives near there who would kindly agree to take over the round I would be very grateful. Barbara Warner (07846 288036/02476 403458).
Invasion of Green Belt
Please see the leaflets at the back of church regarding Coventry City Council’s plan to invade green belt again affecting Eastern Green, Allesley Green and Meriden. The deadline to send your written response to the Council is 5th September.
Fairtrade at St Andrew’s
I am most grateful to Alison and Veronika for taking over Fairtrade sales while I have been ill. Now that I am much better, I hope to be back again at the sales table on Sunday 18th September. As in previous years there will be Fairtrade sales on the first and third Sundays. There will be Christmas cards and gifts as well as the usual food on sale. I look forward to seeing lots of customers on 18th September! Many thanks for your support. Flix Haynes.
Donations to Inter-Care – Medical Aid for Africa
You have probably noticed the crate at the back of church where we place items for recycling. This week I sorted the items in the crate to deliver to Inter-Care but I am afraid I could only donate the dozen new bandages that were in the box. This is because Inter-Care has changed their policy on what they can accept. Now no medicines can be accepted. Therefore please do not leave your old medicines in this crate. We can still accept donations of stamps and spectacles, bandages (as long as they are new and unopened) and plasters (new and unopened packs). Jill Joyce.
Men’s Group – Disc Golf
Nick Tooby has arranged for the Men’s Group to play on the short course in Leamington on the morning of 17th September. The cost is around £6. Please e-mail Nick on firstname.lastname@example.org before 10th September if you are interested.
Tile Hill Job Club
The Tile Hill Hob Club is now running very successfully, but needs more volunteers who can help people put together a CV and look for work (training can be provided) or serve refreshments, the team is especially keen to find someone who would be willing and able to make bacon sandwiches for job seekers. If you want to know more contact Anne Richardson, email@example.com or come along Thursdays 2-4pm in St. Oswald’s Church Hall.
We are celebrating Harvest during the first two weeks of October. Volunteers are needed please to help decorate the church on Saturday 1st October at 9.15am in the side room. Thank you. Ann Dove.
It has been confirmed that St Andrew’s is the first church in the diocese to achieve an Eco-church Bronze Award. The certificate was presented at the June Worship 4 All service. Many thanks to Dawn Easthope for her hard work in undertaking all the administration and green championing around our gaining this important recognition. St Andrew’s is also to be presented with a Yew Tree which will be planted by the Bishop of Coventry next Spring. Following on from this success, we will be forming a group of people to take us forward into achieving the Silver and Gold awards. If you are interested in joining the group, please speak to Dawn Easthope – 07513 753899.
To Lesley Lee who was re-licensed at Coventry Cathedral yesterday as our Reader. We continue to be grateful to God for Lesley’s ministry.

For Praying Out Loud
There is to be a workshop on Saturday 24th September from 10am – 12 noon in church. It is aimed at people who have always wanted to be able to pray out loud but have never quite been able to; and for those who do pray out loud from time to time, but find it uncomfortable doing so. Anyone is welcome to attend. We hope by the end of the morning, everyone will have prayed out loud, but no one who hasn’t will be made to feel bad about this. For further details, please speak to Greg.
Please thank God for the Make Lunch project that has run through the summer. The churches of Tile Hill fed up to 25 children who might otherwise have gone hungry through the summer holidays, deprived of free school meals. This project has been the most successful to date in attracting up to 35 volunteers from 8 different local churches including St Andrew’s.
The Church Together in Tile Hill will be prayer walking the area on Sunday 18th September meeting at the Chinese Church on Lime Tree Avenue at 3pm and culminating at St Andrew’s at approx. 5.25pm with refreshments provided by St Oswalds along the way. If you are unfamiliar with prayer walking, do not be afraid! No one is required to pray in any particular way and it is possible just to do one leg of the walk. Lifts can be arranged. Please speak to Greg. For further details, please see the poster at the back of church.
A party from St Andrew’s will be undertaking a 26 mile sponsored walk on Saturday 1st October, walking the Arden Way, a circular route from Henley in Arden. You are welcome to join us for some or all of the route. Supporters also welcome. For further details, please speak to Greg or Veronika. We are raising funds for the church and for the HanCanFund in support of Hannah Miller, a parishioner who has become wheelchair bound following spinal surgery and needs help in raising funds towards an adapted wet room in her home.
