18th September 2016 – Seventeenth Sunday after Trinity
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
A Very Warm Welcome
To Revd Alan Davies (former Vicar of St Andrew’s) and his wife Mary. Alan is preaching and presiding at our service this morning.
Junior Church has changed its name! The leaders thought the name Children’s Church better reflects the wide age range we cater for and the PCC has agreed. We meet every Sunday during the morning Communion Service (except for the 1st Sunday in the month). All children from 0 – 11 are welcome to join us for learning about Jesus through fun, crafts and games. Parents are welcome too, if your children are reluctant to come on their own.
Fairtrade at St Andrew’s
Fairtrade items are on sale today. As in previous years there will be Fairtrade sales on the first and third Sundays of October and November. There will be Christmas cards and gifts as well as the usual food on sale.
We are celebrating Harvest during the first two weeks of October. Volunteers are needed please to help decorate the church on Saturday 1st October at 9.15am in the side room. If you would like to make a donation towards the cost of the Harvest flowers it would be much appreciated. Thank you. Ann Dove.
Fran and Greg have generously offered to open the Vicarage to members of the congregation for a ‘Bring and Share’ Harvest Lunch at 1pm on Sunday 9th October, after the Harvest Service. We hope that you will see this as a great opportunity to celebrate the Lord’s goodness to us, sharing our food together in friendship and fellowship. All who would like to attend are invited to sign the sheets at the back of Church and indicate what food they would be willing to contribute.
Please beware that there is a postal scam whereby a card from PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) is posted through your door suggesting that they are unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them. If you call the number you will be billed £315. For further details please see the notice in the red folder at the back of church.

St Andrew’s is the first church in the diocese to achieve an Eco-church Bronze Award. The certificate was presented at the June Worship 4 All service. Many thanks to Dawn Easthope for her hard work in undertaking all the administration and green championing around our gaining this important recognition. St Andrew’s is also to be presented with a Yew Tree which will be planted by the Bishop of Coventry next Spring. Following on from this success, we will be forming a group of people to take us forward into achieving the Silver and Gold awards. If you are interested in joining the group, please speak to Dawn Easthope – 07513 753899.
St Andrew’s will be producing a Pantomime next January in conjunction with the Village Hall. Anyone who would like to be involved in this in any capacity (on stage or back stage) should speak to Greg as soon as possible.
The Church Together in Tile Hill is going to be running a Youth Alpha on Monday evenings commencing 10th October. We are looking for table leaders who can help 3 or 4 young people as they talk through their questions relating to the Christian faith. Full training will be provided by Youth for Christ. Please speak to Greg if you want to help. Also, if you know a young person 11+ who might like to do Youth Alpha, mention it to Greg or Phil.
Donations to Inter-Care – Medical Aid for Africa
You have probably noticed the crate at the back of church where we place items for recycling. This week I sorted the items in the crate to deliver to Inter-Care but I am afraid I could only donate the dozen new bandages that were in the box. This is because Inter-Care has changed their policy on what they can accept. Now no medicines can be accepted. Therefore please do not leave your old medicines in this crate. We can still accept donations of stamps and spectacles, bandages (as long as they are new and unopened) and plasters (new and unopened packs). Jill Joyce.
Prayer before Service
Anyone who would like to pray before the service would be welcome to join the small group who do so between 9.40 and 9.50am. We will be meeting upstairs to do this. Please be aware that there is always prayer available after the service for any issue of concern.
Greg, Selina and Emma will be running a 4 week drama workshop at Jardine Youth Centre commencing Monday 26th September at 5.45-6.45pm. The workshop is aimed at 8-12 year olds. Anyone in that age bracket is welcome.
Tile Hill Job Club
The Tile Hill Hob Club is now running very successfully, but needs more volunteers who can help people put together a CV and look for work (training can be provided) or serve refreshments, the team is especially keen to find someone who would be willing and able to make bacon sandwiches for job seekers. If you want to know more contact Anne Richardson, firstname.lastname@example.org or come along Thursdays 2-4pm in St. Oswald’s Church Hall.
The next Pram Service takes place on Tuesday 27th September at 9.15am. A gathering for pre-school children and their carers, with songs, Bible stories and craft activities. Refreshments served from 8.45am. The theme is: Jesus heals the leper. All welcome.
A note for your diary – the Barn Dance is due to take place on Saturday 19th November. Further details to follow.
There will be a Memorial Service for Jean Burns on the evening of Thursday 29th September at 6.30pm. All welcome.
For Praying Out Loud
There is to be a workshop on Saturday 24th September from 10am-12 noon in church. It is aimed at people who have always wanted to be able to pray out loud but have never quite been able to; and for those who do pray out loud from time to time, but find it uncomfortable doing so. Anyone is welcome to attend. We hope by the end of the morning, everyone will have prayed out loud, but no one who hasn’t will be made to feel bad about this. For further details, please speak to Greg.
The Church Together in Tile Hill will be prayer walking the area this afternoon, meeting at the Chinese Church on Lime Tree Avenue at 3pm and culminating at St Andrew’s at approx. 5.25pm with refreshments provided by St Oswalds along the way. If you are unfamiliar with prayer walking, do not be afraid! No one is required to pray in any particular way and it is possible just to do one leg of the walk. Lifts can be arranged. Please speak to Greg. For further details, please see the poster at the back of church.
