Pews News – 9th October 2016

9th October 2016 – 20th Sunday after Trinity

St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

A big thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who gave of their time to decorate the church for Harvest. We have received phone calls thanking us for making the church look so nice. Thanks also to Fay Gibbs and Alan Letten for all the foliage used. Thank you also for the donations received, your generosity is wonderful. Thank you again to all concerned, Ann Dove.

Help Link Delivery
There is a round on Allesley Green – Cherrywood Grove and Juniper close (65 copies). If there is someone who lives near there who would kindly agree to take over the round I would be very grateful. Barbara Warner (07846 288036/02476 403458).

St Andrew’s will be producing a Pantomime next January in conjunction with the Village Hall. Anyone who would like to be involved in this in any capacity (on stage or back stage) should speak to Greg as soon as possible.

Youth Alpha
The Church Together in Tile Hill are going to be running a Youth Alpha on Monday evenings commencing October 10th. If you know a young person 11+ who might like to do Youth Alpha, mention it to Greg or Phil.

We are celebrating Harvest this morning. The charity we are supporting this year is Water Aid. Please give generously. Many thanks to those who kindly decorated the church last weekend and to Denise Davies who supplied our harvest loaf this morning.

NCD Survey
The diocese has encouraged every church in the diocese to undertake a Natural Church Development survey. The requirement is that the survey is completed by those who worship regularly with us (i.e. at least once a month); belong to a small group (e.g. home group, choir, PCC) and contribute to the ministry of the church in any way (reading, coffee rota, lunch n chat etc.) Everyone is expected to complete the survey at the same time. We would be enormously grateful if everyone in church this morning who qualifies would complete it before leaving. The results, (individual’s responses are confidential) will then guide the church leadership in planning over the next 12 months.

Spiritual Gifts Workshop
There is to be a second Spiritual Gifts Workshop on Saturday 15th October from 10-12 noon in church. The workshop is open to anyone interested in spiritual gifting. No prior experience is necessary.

At the end of this year, Jackie Lynch who has given many years loyal service to St Andrew’s as Treasurer will be standing down. Jackie is willing to continue some of the Treasurer’s duties and also ensure there is a good handover of responsibilities. If you have any relevant experience of bookkeeping especially using a computer, please pray about whether you can serve St Andrew’s in this way. For further information, please speak to Jackie or Greg.

Peter Watts
We are sad to announce the death of Pete Watts last week. His funeral will take place on Monday 17th October at 12.30pm in church. Please pray for Sandra and her family at this sad time.

Youth Café
In the final term of last year, the Church Together in Tile Hill ran a successful youth café at Jardine Youth Centre, which St Andrew’s made a significant contribution to. However, over the summer we have lost two volunteers and although we know there are young people who are keen to come, we cannot reopen until those two volunteers have been replaced. Please speak to Greg or Jill Pinks if you want to know more. We want to run late on Monday afternoons from 4-5.30pm.

Phil’s Mountain Climb
Congratulations to Phil Richardson who successfully climbed Ben Nevis for charity last weekend.

Both men and women are needed for this!

As part of their course, they are placed at St Andrew’s for the next 12 months. They will be worshipping at StAPH this morning, and then joining us for harvest lunch. Please do make them feel welcome when you see them at St Andrew’s. We are also looking for people to offer them a simple lunch on a Sunday. This can be done any Sunday over the coming months. Please speak to Greg if you are willing to join a rota to do this.
