Pews News – 13th November 2016

13th November 2016 – Second Sunday before Advent

St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Rock Solid
After 11 years, we have had to close Rock Solid, the youth group that has met at the Scout Hut on Sunday evenings for 10-14 year olds, playing games and quizzes while also helping young people engage with the Christian faith. Special thanks must go to Nick Tooby who was there on day one when Rock Solid started and hasn’t missed a single term in the 11 years since. Going forward, if anyone feels called to work with this age group in the future, please do speak to Nick about it.

St Andrew’s will be producing a Pantomime next January in conjunction with the Village Hall. Anyone who would like to be involved in this in any capacity (on stage or back stage) should speak to Greg asap.

At the end of this year, Jackie Lynch who has given many years loyal service to St Andrew’s as Treasurer will be standing down. Jackie is willing to continue some of the Treasurer’s duties and also ensure there is a good handover of responsibilities. If you have any relevant experience of bookkeeping especially using a computer, please pray about whether you can serve St Andrew’s in this way. For further information, please speak to Jackie or Greg.

Quiz Night
Thanks to all those who supported the Quiz Night at the Massey Ferguson Social Club on November 4th. Over 140 people attended, raising £900 to be shared equally with the Allesley Green Residents Association. Special thanks to Veronika for all her hard work in making the evening such a success.

Eastern Green Village Hall
Greg was reelected as Chair of the Village Hall committee at last week’s AGM. Please note that to book the Village Hall, you should phone Kay on 024 7647 4174.

Finance Appeal
Following a recent budget review, it is apparent that St Andrews stands to make a substantial loss this year c£5k. This is despite of a generous response to the gift day. The deficit, it should be emphasized is not caused by overspend, but by a failure for the income we had hoped for to materialise. We have had less than half the weddings this year compared to last, while we have not benefited from a legacy this year, unlike the two previous years. If you were unable to give to the gift day, but still want to do so, please put a labelled envelope onto the plate.

Youth Café
In the final term of last year, the Church Together in Tile Hill ran a successful youth café at Jardine Youth Centre, which St Andrew’s made a significant contribution to. However, over the summer we have lost two volunteers and although we know there are young people who are keen to come, we cannot reopen until those two volunteers have been replaced. Please speak to Greg or Jill Pinks if you want to know more. We want to run late on Monday afternoons from 4-5.30pm.

Seek His Face
Our monthly gathering for prayer, praise and prophecy happens tonight at 6.30pm in church being led by Phil Richardson.

Decorating the Church for Christmas
Volunteers are needed on Saturday 3rd December at 9.15am to help decorate the church for Christmas. If you would like to donate towards the cost of the Christmas flowers it would be much appreciated, thank you, Ann Dove.

Choral Evensong
A small group from our choir are joining choirs and singers from the Coventry Diocese to sing choral Evensong at Coventry Cathedral on Saturday 19th November. They have work extremely hard learning complex pieces of choral music and in a very short space of time. The service starts at 4pm and everyone is welcome at the Cathedral to show support for our group. Many thanks, Dawn Easthope.

Safeguarding at St Andrew’s
The Safeguarding policy for the Diocese of Coventry has been updated which all parishes should have now formally adopted and implemented. In line with this there are two new papers regarding ‘Safer Recruitment’. These apply to all – both paid staff and volunteers and brings about changes in requirements. Can everyone please be aware that this now includes a job description and an application form with a signed agreement. Within the next few weeks, we will be sending these forms out to whom they concern and I am asking please that they are returned promptly. Thank you, Linda Chylinski.
