25th December 2016 – Christmas Day
Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
To Phil Richardson, who will be serving his curacy at St Andrew’s following his ordination at Coventry Cathedral on July 2nd next year. Phil will divide his time 50/50 between St Andrew’s and StAPH. Do pray for him as he completes his training.
From Fran for all the messages of support and prayers over the period of her knee replacement operation. All has gone well and she is making a slow and at times painful recovery.
Many thanks to all those who contributed toys for our Toy appeal. The toys will be distributed by Tile Hill Children’s Centre to those families who might otherwise be without over Christmas. A Christmas card from the children is at the back of church.
St Andrew’s will be producing a Pantomime next January in conjunction with the Village Hall. Tickets for this are available from Julie on 07756 918847 or email@example.com at a cost of £10 for adults £5 children and £7 concessions. Performances take place on Friday 20th Jan at 7pm and Saturday 21st Jan at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Please book early to avoid disappointment. We do anticipate these performances will sell out! There is to be a scenery painting session next Saturday 31st Dec from 11am-2pm at the Village Hall. All welcome. Please bring your own paint brush!
Greg would like to hear from anyone who could help us source the following props: Large horn-rimmed glasses; a cradle; a spinning wheel; a blunderbuss; one man band kit; and three tankards.
We are pleased to announce that from January 1st, Emma Adcock has agreed to take on the responsibility of church treasurer. We are enormously grateful to Jackie for all the work she has put in over the last 6 years and are grateful that she has agreed to continue to do all the day to day money handling duties.
Winter Night Shelter
Our friends and neighbours at St Oswalds are once again hosting the winter night shelter on Friday evenings through the winter. They provide a safe and warm place to sleep for the homeless. The project always needs more volunteers. If you are considering volunteering, please speak to Greg or Anne Richardson or contact Father Nick direct.
Many thanks to all those who generously supported the Arden Way sponsored walk. Greg was able to present Hannah Miller, for whom we were raising funds, with a cheque for £925. Even better news was that Hannah has taken two steps last week, something she had been told would never happen. Please see thank you message from Hannah below.
To Reverend Smith and all at St. Andrew’s Church
Last week Greg came to see me with a cheque of money raised from the Arden Way sponsored walk. We were completely overwhelmed with the amount raised which will help me in my recovery and adaptions I now need from a devastating spinal injury. I cannot really put into words how much we appreciate it. It is at times like this you truly see the goodness in people. We are blessed to have so many people who want to help us. Thank you to everyone involved from the walkers to the helpers with the preparations and on the day, not forgetting all the people who sponsored them. Especially as the weather was not kind to everyone on that day! Thank you so much for your continued friendship and prayers. God bless and with love from Hannah Miller and Family.
New Year’s Day
Please note that there will be a service of Holy Communion on New Year’s Day at 10am but not 8am service.
Worship 4 All
Our next Worship 4 All service takes place on Sunday Jan 8th when there will be an Epiphany theme. There will also be an 8am communion service and Seek His Face at 6.30pm.
To Revd Lynda Lilley who has just been appointed as the new Rector of Meriden. Lynda is well known to our Pram Service families. She is being inducted into her new role on Thurs Jan 19th at St Lawrence’s. If anyone is able to attend and represent St Andrew’s, please speak to Greg.
Many thanks to all those who made special one-off gifts to our Christmas appeal. We believe thanks to your generosity the £5k needed has been raised. Thank you and Praise God!
Good Neighbours Project
Anyone interested in volunteering for the Good Neighbours project or would like to know more about this really important new project visiting older, isolated people in the area should contact Jess Day-Pollard at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Carol Singing in Allesley Green
Many thanks to all those who came out to sing with the residents of Allesley Green last Wednesday. We estimate that 170 people attended in all and £260 was collected for the Salvation Army. Special thanks to the residents of Birch Close who supplied 120 mince pies, hot mulled wine and decorated the close so beautifully; and also to our musicians Dan/Nadia/Becky and Tom who accompanied us so well despite having very cold hands!
Open the Book
Open the Book is a project adopted by many churches across the UK, dedicated to bringing Bible stories into schools. One of the staff at St Andrew’s School is willing to head up a small team of volunteers who would come into the school, perhaps once a month, to tell Bible stories in a dramatic, interactive way in school assemblies. If you would be at all interested in joining such a team, please speak to Greg.
Bishop’s Certificate in Discipleship and Mission
St. Andrew’s will be hosting one of the diocesan BCDM modules in the new year. This is a five week course and open to all. There is no cost for those who attend from our congregations, but you will need to register for course (see below). Paul’s Life, Mission and Letters looks at the life of the Apostle in his context in the 1st Century world, and at the letters that he wrote, focusing especially on 1 and 2 Corinthians. You will gain an understanding of what motivated Paul, what his opponents said, and find ways of reading his letters so that they make sense! If you want to know more or are unsure about how to register please speak with Sue Masters, or email email@example.com. Further information about all BCDM modules are available on the diocesan website. Dates and Time: Tuesday evenings 7-9:30pm, 10th January – 7th February, venue: St Andrew’s Church. To register, please go to: www.dioceseofcoventry.org/BCDMregister<http://www.dioceseofcoventry.org/BCDMregister>
