8th January 2017 – First Sunday of Epiphany
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Children’s Church for Pre-School and Primary Aged Children
Children’s Church opens for the Spring Term next Sunday, 15th January, when we will be looking at the Last Supper and its relevance for Christians today. Later in the term we will be exploring prayer – how Jesus prayed and how we can pray. Each week there is a Bible story, games and activities. New children and their parents are always welcome.
From Fran for all the messages of support and prayers over the period of her knee replacement operation. All has gone well and she is making a slow and at times painful recovery.
Many thanks to all those who contributed toys for our Toy appeal. The toys were distributed by Tile Hill Children’s Centre to those families who might otherwise have been without over Christmas. A Christmas card from the children is at the back of church.
St Andrew’s will be producing a Pantomime next January in conjunction with the Village Hall. Tickets for this are available from Julie on 07756 918847 or email@example.com at a cost of £10 for adults £5 children and £7 concessions. We are defining concessions as those in receipt of benefits or students (not pensioners sorry!) Performances take place on Friday 20th Jan at 7pm and Saturday 21st Jan at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Please book early to avoid disappointment. We do anticipate these performances will sell out! There is to be a scenery painting session next Saturday 14th January from 1-3pm in the church sideroom. All welcome. Please bring your own paint brush! We are also looking for stage hands, prompters, chaperones and people willing to assist with the makeup. Please speak to Greg or Selina if you’re able to help.
We are pleased to announce that from January 1st, Emma Adcock has agreed to take on the responsibility of church treasurer. We are enormously grateful to Jackie for all the work she has put in over the last 6 years and are grateful that she has agreed to continue to do all the day to day money handling duties.
Lesley and Greg will be offering another prayer workshop on Saturday January 28th from 10-12 noon in church. This will provide another opportunity for those seeking to grow in confidence in their prayer lives. All welcome.
Winter Night Shelter
Our friends and neighbours at St Oswalds are once again hosting the winter night shelter on Friday evenings through the winter. They provide a safe and warm place to sleep for the homeless. The project always needs more volunteers. If you are considering volunteering, please speak to Greg or Anne Richardson or contact Father Nick direct.
Seek His Face
Our monthly gathering for worship, prayer and prophecy takes place tonight at 6.30pm as we focus on what God has in store for us in the year ahead. All welcome.
To Revd Lynda Lilley who has just been appointed as the new Rector of Meriden. Lynda is well known to our Pram Service families. She is being inducted into her new role on Thurs Jan 19th at St Lawrence’s.
Many thanks to all those who made special one-off gifts to our Christmas appeal. We believe thanks to your generosity the £5k needed has been raised. Thank you and Praise God!
Good Neighbours Project
Anyone interested in volunteering for the Good Neighbours project or would like to know more about this really important new project visiting older, isolated people in the area should contact Jess Day-Pollard at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Service for Christian Unity
Every year, local churches meet to celebrate our unity in Christ and to pray for a deeper level of visible unity among the churches. This year, we meet at St James on Tile Hill Lane on Sunday 22nd January at 6.30pm to worship, followed by refreshments. There will also be an opportunity to hear about some of the great successes that have arisen since the Church Together in Tile Hill came into being. It would be great to have a good turn out from St Andrew’s and StAPH. Please speak to Greg or Sara Parkes if you need a lift.
Many thanks to all who contributed to making Christmas at St Andrew’s and StAPH so special, whether it be decorating the church, performing at the crib service or extra sidespersons duties. It has been a truly special time.
Open the Book
Open the Book is a project adopted by many churches across the UK, dedicated to bringing Bible stories into schools. One of the staff at St Andrew’s School is willing to head up a small team of volunteers who would come into the school, perhaps once a month, to tell Bible stories in a dramatic, interactive way in school assemblies. If you would be at all interested in joining such a team, please speak to Greg.
This week’s altar flowers were kindly donated by Aileen Barwick.
Please pray for Derek Shale, Jean Selby, Mary Lee, Colin & Pauline Smith, Beryl Poppit, Peter Shale, Lara Santostefano, Brenda Lawrence, Andrew Rennie, Rosemary Pottinger, Pam Bennell, Jo Hanney, Hannah Miller and Trevor Ratcliffe. To add names to the list please contact Julie at email@example.com or 07756 918847.
