12th March 2017 – Second Sunday of Lent
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Children’s Society Boxes
The boxes will be collected and counted throughout February and March. You can either bring your box to church or I will collect from you. I take this opportunity of thanking you for your continuing support for this worthy charity. Jackie Lynch.
Anne has recently decided to move on from her role as Development Officer for the Church Together in Tile Hill and seek an alternative church placement to complement her theological training for ordination, which she continues at St Mellitus. Do pray for her as she hands over the reins at the Church Together by April 16th and as she seeks the right placement to give her a wider experience of life in the Church of England before her curacy.
Twice a year up to 100 churches of different denominations gather together in the city to worship God as an act of united witness and concerted prayer. The next such event happens at the Welcome Centre, Parkside, next Sunday, March 19th at 6.30pm. Discover what it’s like to worship alongside many hundreds of other Christians by coming along. Speak to Greg if you would like a lift.
Diversity and Inclusion
St Andrew’s is looking to set up a Diversity and Inclusion working party to help us think about how we can effectively welcome all people into our fellowship. If you are interested in joining this small group, please speak to Greg or Steve Warne.

Count Your Blessings
In recent years, many people have found following Christian Aid’s Count Your Blessings scheme during Lent very helpful. There are sheets available at the back of church for adults and children that enable you to count your blessings through the course of Lent e.g. by counting how many hot meals we have in a day or how many times we turn on a tap to access clean water, resulting in our making an appropriate donation to Christian Aid at the end of Lent to support those around the world who do not have these blessings.
On Palm Sunday, April 9th, we will be dramatizing the Passion story in place of our 10am service. We are looking to recruit cast members (a number of the roles are non-speaking); as well as costume makers and a stage manager. It is a very powerful thing to watch and even more powerful to take part in. Anyone willing to get involved in this performance should contact Greg.
Those concerned about Coventry City Council’s proposals to redesignate the greenbelt land to the north of Eastern Green as available for development may wish to attend the full Council meeting on Tuesday 14th March at 2.45pm when this will be debated. Members of the public are welcome to sit in the public gallery, although not permitted to speak. Campaigners have suggested that a good turnout will demonstrate the strength of feeling in the area.
CAP Coventry: A message from Ian Burton, its Director
The Coventry CAP (Christians Against Poverty) debt centre has been up and running almost 2 years. We take on 1 new client a week and have had contact with 88 families so far. However, 40% of these do not get to the point of sorting out their debt (a figure consistent across all of the 260 CAP debt centres). This can be at the very beginning of the process (i.e. not even answering calls) or 6 months down the line. This is obviously very frustrating but we have to accept that we can only help those who want to be helped. This means of course that 60% of our clients are accepting help and are moving to become debt free. And even with the 40% we believe we are sowing seeds!! We have seen 3 people come to faith and numerous others start a journey with Jesus or begin again that awesome journey. This is our heart, to see people become debt free but more importantly to follow Jesus. Thank you for your prayers for what we do. If you could let your congregation know the ongoing need for befrienders and for people to pray whilst we are on visits, that would be brilliant. To see some stories about what we do please see the sheet on the noticeboard at the back of church. To find out more, contact Ian Burton at email@example.com.
Please pray for George Cooke, Ann Crowley, Flix Haynes, Fred Edwards, Derek Shale, Jean Selby, Mary Lee, Colin & Pauline Smith, Beryl Poppit, Lara Santostefano, Brenda Lawrence, Rosemary Pottinger, Pam Bennell, Jo Hanney, Hannah Miller and Trevor Ratcliffe. To add names to the list please contact Julie at firstname.lastname@example.org or 07756 918847.
