Pews News – 26th March 2017

26th March 2017 – Fourth Sunday of Lent

Welcome
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Happy Mothering Sunday
To all mothers and mother figures!

Children’s Worker
From September, St Andrew’s is looking to employ a half-time Children’s Worker. If you would like further information about this, please contact Julie, our administrator, at administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk or see the advert on our website or for an informal conversation, please speak to Greg or Hilary Wankling. The deadline for an application is April 7th.

Bishop’s Visit
Thanks to those who turned out in the rain to support the planting of the Yew Tree in the churchyard and the opening of Juniper Park by Bishop Christopher last Monday.

Anne Richardson
If anyone would like to contribute towards a gift for Anne as she steps down in her role as Church Together Development Officer, please pass to Greg in a clearly marked envelope.

Bric a Brac Stall
We plan to run a bric a brac stall at the Party in the Park on Monday May 1st. The organising committee is looking for someone to run this. If you are able to help, please contact Julie or speak to Greg.

Allesley Green Prayer
There is a new prayer group being launched in and for Allesley Green that meets for the first time on Tuesday 28th March at 7.30pm at 14 New Ash Drive. All welcome.

Open the Book
The Open the Book team, which Kate Howarth, has kindly agreed to coordinate, led its first assembly at St Andrew’s School last week. If anyone else wants to join the team to tell bible stories using simple drama, they should speak to Kate or Greg.

Diversity and Inclusion
St Andrew’s is looking to set up a Diversity and Inclusion working party to help us think about how we can effectively welcome all people into our fellowship. If you are interested in joining this small group, please speak to Greg or Steve Warne.

Dementia Support Group
The PCC have agreed to set up a Dementia Support group for sufferers and their carers, starting on Thursday afternoons from September. We are looking to recruit volunteers. No experience necessary, just an ability to listen and care for those in need. Please speak to Greg or Rita. We are hoping to host a taster session in May.

Quiz Night
Please note that the next joint St Andrew’s and Allesley Green Residents Association Quiz Night will take place at the Massey Ferguson Social Club on Friday 31st March. Please note that this is different from the previous date advertised in the Link. Tickets are £9 for adults and £5 children and are available from Julie or Veronika.

Bring and Share Lunch: Sunday 30th April 30th
By now we probably all know that Greg is due to be on sabbatical leave from May 2nd until the end of July. This will be an opportunity for the Church to wish him and Fran ‘Bon Voyage’, as they embark on a period of refreshment. The Eastern Green Social Club has been booked after the Morning Service on Sunday, April 30th, and we hope that many of you will want to join us there to give Greg and Fran a good ‘send-off’ with a ‘Bring and Share’ Lunch. So that we may ensure that we have a balanced selection of foods on offer, you are invited to sign on the sheet at the back of Church to indicate what you would like to contribute. Please feel free to add to the list, if you would like to bring something else!

Training Session
A training session has been arranged for all volunteers in the children’s ministries at St Andrew’s and StAPH on Saturday 1st April, 9.30am – 1pm in the side room. It is being led by Anna Martin from New Wine.

Walk of Witness on Good Friday
The annual Walk of Witness on Good Friday will be starting at Sutton Avenue Shops at 11.30am, finishing at St Oswalds at 12 noon for the joint Good Friday service. All welcome!

Link Distribution
I would be grateful for a volunteer(s) to deliver to Hockley Lane and Lyndhurst close (102). If two people were willing this could be halved for ease of delivery. Please contact Barbara (02476 403458/07846 288036) or email me, bwarner113@gmail.com. Many thanks in anticipation.

Weekly Giving Envelopes
Thanks to everyone who donates each week to St Andrew’s using the Weekly Giving Envelopes. April sees the start of a new Tax Year so new boxes of envelopes for the next twelve months are at the back of the church. Should anyone wish to join the envelope scheme please contact Richard Marr (01676 522697). Regular giving by envelope or by Standing Order helps us plan the church’s finances in the coming year and we are most grateful to all those who give regularly every week or every month. If you are a regular giver and a tax payer but haven’t already completed a Gift Aid Form, please do so as soon as possible to enable us to recover the tax you have already paid on your giving. Should you wish to increase the amount you put in the weekly envelopes or your Standing Order, please do so any time as you do not need to complete a new Gift Aid Form. Last year we recovered £11760 from the Inland Revenue as a result of your Gift Aid Giving.

Communion on Palm Sunday
There will be an additional service on Palm Sunday, April 9th, this year, at 8am, a said communion. All welcome.

Dan & Phillipa Munday
Please see the latest prayer letter from our mission partners, Dan and Phillipa who are working in Nepal.  It is in the red folder at the back of church. If you would like your own copy for prayer, please contact Julie.

Easter Egg Hunts
Please note there will be Easter Egg hunts on Saturday 8th April at Bannerbrook Park in the morning and in Allesley Green at Juniper Park in the afternoon, from 2pm.

Volunteers Needed
On Saturday 15th April at 9.15am we will be decorating the church for Easter. Volunteers required please. If you can help, please let me know. Thank you, Ann Dove.

Electoral Roll
Anyone who has been worshipping regularly at St Andrew’s or StAPH for six months or more is eligible to join our electoral roll. This gives you full membership rights of your church, which is especially important when it comes to weddings, christenings and funerals. It is helpful to the church in its negotiations with the diocese to have the roll as accurate as possible, so if you have never joined, we would encourage you to do so before April 9th. Forms are available at the back of church.

Beauty and the Beast
Jardine Drama club, which is run by Greg, Selina and Emma is staging a 15 minute version of Beauty and the Beast at Jardine Youth Centre on Monday 3rd April at 6.30pm. Tickets are free and available in advance from one of the leaders or on the door. Please support the children if you possibly can.

PCC Vacancies
There will be a number of vacancies on the Church council for the year beginning in May. The PCC meets 9 times a year on the 2nd Monday of the month. Anyone interested in standing should speak to Greg or Mathis. No previous experience of committees is required.

Cakes
We are looking for volunteers to make cakes for Party in the Park on May 1st. Please speak to Fran if you are able to help.

Curtains
If anyone has any old curtains that might be used for the Palm Sunday drama, please speak to Jackie Page.

Kidz Klub Easter Eggs
Kidz Klub Tile Hill who we have historically supported and who sent Anya and Phil to speak to Worship 4 All earlier this month are looking to give a Real Easter Egg at a cost of £4 to each of the children with whom they work. They are looking to the partner churches to support this. If you are willing to give £4 towards one egg, please place it in a clearly marked envelope.
