St Andrew’s Churchyard

St. Andrew’s Churchyard

As a Church we are very concerned about our effect on the ecology of the world. As a result, the Parochial Church Council has developed a policy of allowing the grass in the older part of the Churchyard to grow wild through the spring and early summer. This encourages wildlife, particularly insects which are vital to the welfare of all our crops and plants. We are also hoping that as we leave the grass to grow we will have a greater number and variety of wild flowers. We also save energy by not cutting the grass as often.

As a result, parts of the Churchyard may look unloved, but this is not the case. Our small part of God’s creation is being allowed to grow.

Now that is why the Churchyard looks like it does. But that does not mean that we do not care about the graves, or those who visit them. If you want the area round a particular grave cleared, or a path to a specific grave cut, please let us know. We will endeavour to get it done as soon as possible. Also remember that if you have a loved one in the Churchyard you are welcome to tend the grave and the area immediately around it yourself.
