Phil Richardson’s Ordination and Barbeque
Best wishes to Phil Richardson whose ordination is today at Coventry Cathedral at 4pm. Afterwards, St Andrew’s will be hosting a barbeque in the vicarage garden from 6pm. All are welcome to both!
Phil’s Induction & StAPH’s 10yr Anniversary
Phil’s induction by Bishop Chris (and StAPH 10 year anniversary celebration) will be taking place on Sunday 17th September. Venue is to be confirmed so just keep the date free for now!
Seek His Face
Please note that Seek His Face has been cancelled for July and as there is no Seek His Face in August will now return in September.
The next planning meeting for all volunteers at Children’s Church and Crèche will be at Linda’s house on Thursday, 13th July at 7.30pm. (Please note that this is a change from the date given at the last meeting).
Last year, the church was able to balance its books through some last minute generous giving over Christmas. We are keen to avoid a deficit crisis this year, although the first quarter has not been good. There will never be a charge for church membership and we encourage our supporters to give what they can afford. However, in order to make ends meet, each electoral roll member needs to give on average £10 per week. We appreciate that some people give substantially more than this and are grateful for it. Since April is often a good time to review your finances, please prayerfully consider the level of your church giving. And remember that if you pay tax, you can increase the value of your gift by 25% by signing up to the gift aid scheme. Forms for this are available in the leaflet rack at the back of church.
St Andrew’s Churchyard
As a Church we are very concerned about our effect on the ecology of the world. As a result, the Parochial Church Council has developed a policy of allowing the grass in the older part of the Churchyard to grow wild through the spring and early summer. This encourages wildlife, particularly insects which are vital to the welfare of all our crops and plants. We are also hoping that as we leave the grass to grow we will have a greater number and variety of wild flowers. We also save energy by not cutting the grass as often. As a result, parts of the Churchyard may look unloved, but this is not the case. Our small part of God’s creation is being allowed to grow. Now that is why the Churchyard looks like it does. But that does not mean that we do not care about the graves, or those who visit them. If you want the area round a particular grave cleared, or a path to a specific grave cut, please let us know. We will endeavour to get it done as soon as possible. Also remember that if you have a loved one in the Churchyard you are welcome to tend the grave and the area immediately around it yourself. This Monday will be the fourth week of our 5 week drama workshop being run by Selina and Emma at Jardine Youth Centre from 6-7pm. The theme is ‘Under the Sea’. The workshop is free and aimed at 8-12 year olds. Anyone in that age bracket is welcome. Please speak to Selina or Emma if you wish to know more.
Safeguarding at St Andrew’s
As Greg and Fran are on sabbatical leave, can I please remind everyone that I am the first point of contact should a safeguarding issue arise. My number is published weekly in the Pews News and also in the Link magazine. There is now a new on line basic safeguarding Training …module C0. It is a one off and the information for completing it is on the notice board at the back of church. Everyone is now expected to complete this module prior to attending C1. A certificate will be available to print off and you will be asked to show this when attending for C1 training. We are aware safeguarding can be a sensitive subject for survivors of any sort of abuse. In this case, please do not complete this module alone, but complete it with a friend or in a group, or if preferred, Helen Tebbatt can be contacted for help via telephone or email. Safeguarding – Voluntary Action Coventry
Voluntary Action Coventry will be holding Introduction to Safeguarding training on Thursday 13th July from 10am-12pm (£20 – 25% off if you are a member) at 29 Warwick Road, Coventry, CV1 2ES. This course provides an essential introduction for both individuals and organisations seeking to work with or currently working with children and young people in Coventry. The course is designed to help explain what Safeguarding means for you, your organisation and the young people you support and how changes in Safeguarding arrangements and statutory provision of children’s services in Coventry will affect you and your organisation. The session will benefit from the insight of Ann Pluska, Coventry City Council Children’s Safeguarding Board Officer, who will provide an overview of the role of the Board and how they can help you train your staff and volunteers and develop your approach. The session will help you to a) Identify the risks and steps you need to take to ensure you meet your legal responsibilities and b) Explore how a safeguarding policy is turned into safe practice which protects you, your organisation and most importantly the children you support. Christian Meditation Group
A new Christian Meditation Group started at St Andrew’s Church on Thursday 4th May at 7pm and continues on a fortnightly basis. This form of silent, imageless prayer using a mantra or prayer word is rooted in the Gospel, the letters of St Paul and originated with the early desert fathers of the 4th Century. A Benedictine monk, Father John Main (1926 -1982) rediscovered this ancient prayer tradition for contemporary men and women. Newcomers are welcomed to the group. The 2 hour approx. session includes quiet music/guided meditation, 20 minutes of silent meditation followed by a short CD talk on meditation, followed by a question and answer period include tea, coffee and biscuits. Dementia Support Group
The PCC have agreed to set up a Dementia Support group for sufferers and their carers, starting on Thursday afternoons from September. We are looking to recruit volunteers. No experience necessary, just an ability to listen and care for those in need. Please speak to Rita.
Make Lunch Volunteers Needed
Can you help fill the ‘Holiday Hunger Gap’? We need cooks and volunteers to provide healthy food and lots of fun for children in Tile Hill missing free school meals. 10.45-1.30pm, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school summer holidays at Limbrick Wood Baptist Church. Plans are afoot for a sponsored walk on Saturday 2nd September along the Heart of England Way. We are going to be raising funds for Archie’s Smile, a charity for children with Down’s Syndrome and for the church 50/50. We will be walking 44 miles, approximately the first half of the Heart of England Way. However, anyone is welcome to join us and walk as much or as little of the route as you feel able.
