Pews News – 22nd October 2017

22nd October 2017 – Nineteenth Sunday after Trinity

St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Church Warden
Sadly, after 18 months serving St Andrew’s as church warden, Mathis Baumert has had to stand down due to pressure of work commitments. We are immensely grateful to Mathis for all his hard work over that time. We are pleased to announce that Stephen Warne has agreed to take on the role of acting church warden until our AGM next April. Please note that one of the chief tasks of a churchwarden is to act as liaison between the congregation and the leadership of the church.

StAPH becomes St Andy’s Church
After 10 years as StAPH, the PCC has agreed to rename our church plant as St Andy’s Church. This decision was driven by the need to ensure that outsiders understood that it was a church, and has the advantage of making the connection with St Andrew’s transparent, while pointing up the informality which is one of the hallmarks of the plant. The new St Andy’s is currently meeting in members’ homes following the closure of the 6th form block at Woodlands. There will be a service for the whole St Andy’s congregation at St Andrew’s on Sunday 29th October at 4pm, a good opportunity for St Andrew’s people who have always wondered what happens at StAPH to come along.

Open the Book
The Open the Book team who perform bible stories in St Andrew’s School for their assemblies are looking for practical support from a costume maker and/or props maker. Anyone interested should speak to Greg or Kate Howarth.

Sunday Service Volunteers
If you receive rotas by email you should have received a letter regarding an evening meeting in November. For others, there will be a named envelope at the back of church ready for you to pick up. For any queries, please contact Steve Wankling – 02476467332, mb. 07973459073.

Coffee Rota
Do you enjoy a nice cuppa after the service? If so, it’s thanks to a great team of faithful volunteers offering an extra hour or so after service every Sunday. We are now looking to put together a rota to ensure we have sufficient people to serve coffee and tea. If you currently volunteer, please could you let Rosemarie know your availability. If you do not currently volunteer but would like to, we’re looking for new people to join and would really appreciate your help! Please see or telephone Rosemarie Over on 07778 397284. And remember – if we don’t have volunteers, there won’t be any coffee/tea!!

The course publicity says: ‘It’s our hope that Growing Leaders will help equip leaders at every level of church life to be led more by Jesus, to lead more like Jesus and to lead more to Jesus.’ Interested?
