Pews News – 5th November 2017

5th November 2017 – Fourth Sunday before Advent

St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Church Warden
Sadly, after 18 months serving St Andrews as churchwarden, Mathis Baumert has had to stand down due to pressure of work commitments. We are immensely grateful to Mathis for all his hard work over that time. We are pleased to announce that Stephen Warne has agreed to take on the role of acting Church Warden until our AGM next April. Please note that one of the chief tasks of a Church Warden is to act as liaison between the congregation and the leadership of the church.

StAPH becomes St Andy’s Church
After 10 years as StAPH, the PCC has agreed to rename our church plant as St Andy’s Church. This decision was driven by the need to ensure that outsiders understood that it was a church, and has the advantage of making the connection with St Andrew’s transparent, while pointing up the informality which is one of the hallmarks of the plant. St Andy’s will meet in St Andrew’s through November at 4pm except today, a good opportunity for St Andrew’s people who have always wondered what happens at StAPH to come along.

Memorial Service
Our annual memorial service takes place this evening at 6.30pm. We will be remembering all those who have died in the parish over the last 12 months as well as any others for whom we’ve been given names. Please give names of loved ones to Greg or Harvey.

Growing Leaders Course 2018
We have successfully run this course over recent years at St Andrew’s and we are starting a new Growing Leaders Course in January 2018. This is a course designed for anyone currently in leadership in the church or at work; or for anyone who is considering that they might be at some point in the future, whether that is working with a small group of children or adults, or taking on a specific responsibility in the church, at work or the community. The course publicity says: ‘It’s our hope that Growing Leaders will help equip leaders at every level of church life to be led more by Jesus, to lead more like Jesus and to lead more to Jesus.’ Interested? We are holding a social evening on Tuesday 7th November at the Sue Masters’ house, 55 Handsworth Crescent, CV5 7GD, from 7-8.30pm to introduce the course programme to people. If you would like to come and find out more please speak with Greg or Sue Masters (07958 322026).

Advent Course
Is it that time already? The clocks have gone back, the shops have been decorated for Christmas and the merchandise displayed to start us thinking about Christmas. At St Andrew’s we too are preparing for Christmas by holding a four week Advent group and all are welcome. We will meet on Thursday mornings from 10.30-12 noon starting on Thursday 23rd November, and will meet at Rita Muir’s home, 9 Nailcote Avenue, Tile Hill. Among the preparation for Christmas can you make space to meet with others to look at the Bible and think afresh about the meaning of Advent and Christmas. If you would like to come or want to know more, please speak with me or call me on 07958 322026. Sue Masters.

Volunteers Wanted
The church is being decorated on Saturday 2nd December for Christmas. Please spare half an hour to come at 9.15am and help make our lovely church look even more beautiful. Thank you, Ann Dove.

Coffee Rota
Do you enjoy a nice cuppa after the service? If so, it’s thanks to a great team of faithful volunteers offering an extra hour or so after service every Sunday. We are now looking to put together a rota to ensure we have sufficient people to serve coffee and tea. If you currently volunteer, please could you let Rosemarie know your availability. If you do not currently volunteer but would like to, we’re looking for new people to join and would really appreciate your help! Please see or telephone Rosemarie Over on 07778 397284. And remember – if we don’t have volunteers, there won’t be any coffee/tea!!
