26th November 2017 – Sunday next before Advent
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Many thanks from Greg and Fran for the sympathy cards and condolence messages following the death of Greg’s dad recently. Your love, kindness and prayers have helped so much at this difficult time.
Allesley Green Prayer
A small group of people will be meeting at the Vicarage on Tuesday 28th November at 7.30pm for an hour to pray for the Allesley Green estate.
Next service sees our annual Toy Service at Worship 4 All at 10am. You are invited to bring new unwrapped toys to place under the Christmas tree. These will be distributed to children in need around the city. If you have toys to give, but are unable to come to that service, you will be able to bring them during daylight hours during the following week.
Bible Page Nos
We have asked readers to announce page numbers when introducing bible readings. For those of you who don’t like to be rushed in finding the right page, please note the page numbers are recorded in Pews News each week. Having bought 20 new bibles, it would be great if lots more people were following the readings.
Please note that the Nightingales concert on 10th December has been cancelled because of illness for Pat Trickett, their musical director. Please do pray for her as she awaits surgery.
Darkness to Light
Our Darkness to Light service which marks the start of Advent takes place on Sunday 3rd December at 6.30pm. This is a moving and atmospheric way to start the Advent season. We are looking for readers and sidespersons for the service. If able to help, please speak to Greg.
Please pray for our only confirmation candidate, Shirley Lewis, who was confirmed at Coventry Cathedral yesterday.
Bible Video Project
St Andrew’s will be making a short video in the new year, interviewing people about what they get out of reading the bible. We are looking for volunteers to speak to camera for about 40 seconds. We are looking for people who don’t mind talking about the difficulties as well as the joys of bible reading. If you might be interested, please speak to Sue Masters.
St Andrew’s will be staging a live nativity on Bannerbrook Park on December 14th and 15th 2017. Tickets are available from Julie at email@example.com or 07756 918847 at a cost of £5 adults and £2 children. Please book early to avoid disappointment. If anyone has hurricane lamps (or similar) they could lend to the production, please speak to Kate Howarth or Greg.
St Andrew’s Day
There will be a special service on St Andrew’s Day, Thursday 30th November to celebrate our patron Saint at 7pm. Revd Kate Massey, Dean of Women’s Ministry and former curate will preside and preach. If you would like to help at the service with sidespersons duties or leading intercessions, please speak to Greg.
Those people who attended C0 training will be aware there is now a pro forma for recording concerns or allegations of abuse within a church. This form is now pinned onto the noticeboard at the back of church should it be required. Thank you, Linda Chylinski.
Christmas Cards for Prisoners of Conscience
Our annual card writing evening is on Wednesday 6th December at 7.30pm in the side room. We shall be writing cards to prisoners of conscience around the world (with guidance on wording from Amnesty International). Seasonal refreshments are provided. Donations towards postage will be gratefully received even if you’re unable to come. Trevor Hill & Flix Haynes.
Christmas Hampers for Deprived Families
Following the success of delivering Christmas hampers to Kidz Klub families in recent years, Kidz Klub Coventry are looking to do the same again this year. The hampers have been an incredible blessing to many of our families, reducing several parents to tears at the kindness expressed in the gift. If you would like to help to put together a hamper please see the letter and information sheet on the noticeboard at the back of church.
Is it that time already? The clocks have gone back, the shops have been decorated for Christmas and the merchandise displayed to start us thinking about Christmas. At St Andrew’s we too are preparing for Christmas by holding a four week Advent group and all are welcome. We will meet on Thursday mornings from 10.30-12 noon starting on Thursday 23rd November, and will meet at Rita Muir’s home, 9 Nailcote Avenue, Tile Hill. Among the preparation for Christmas can you make space to meet with others to look at the Bible and think afresh about the meaning of Advent and Christmas. If you would like to come or want to know more, please speak with me or call me on 07958 322026. Sue Masters
The church is being decorated on Saturday 2nd December for Christmas. Please spare half an hour to come at 9.15am and help make our lovely church look even more beautiful. Thank you, Ann Dove.
The Link is ready for collection in the side room, if you deliver or are able to take to someone who does near to you, we would be grateful if you could take the bundle for delivery … many thanks. Barbara Warner.
