17th December 2017 – Third Sunday of Advent
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Christmas Toy Appeal
Many thanks to all those who have contributed so generously to our Christmas toy appeal. The toys have been given to the Family Hub in Tile Hill and will ensure many children have a wonderful Christmas that might otherwise have been without.
To Stanley and Lucia who were married last Saturday at St Andrews.
Bible Page Numbers
We have asked readers to announce page numbers when introducing bible readings. For those of you who don’t like to be rushed in finding the right page, please note the page numbers are recorded in pews news each week. Having bought 20 new bibles, it would be great if lots more people were following the readings.
All are welcome at our annual Carol Service, which takes place tonight at 6.30pm. Please come early for a good seat.
Christmas Eve Services
There will be a Parish Communion on Christmas Eve at 10am followed by two Crib Services at 2.30pm and 4pm. The Midnight Communion service will commence at 11pm. All welcome at any or all of these services.
We need a volunteer to read on Christmas morning. Please speak to Greg.
New Year’s Eve
There will be a regular Parish Communion service on New Year’s Eve at 10am.
Carols in the Close
Allesley Green Residents Association and St Andrew’s Church are jointly hosting Carols in the Close on Tuesday 19th December at 6.30pm in Birch Close, Allesley Green. Last year, in excess of 150 people turned up for a very special event.
Flower Rota 2018
The 2018 flower rota is now at the back of church. If you would like to put your name down for a week, please do.
Those people who attended C0 training will be aware there is now a pro forma for recording concerns or allegations of abuse within a church. This form is now pinned onto the noticeboard at the back of church should it be required. Thank you, Linda Chylinski.
Growing Leaders Course 2018
We have successfully run this course over recent years at St Andrew’s and we are starting a new Growing Leaders Course in January 2018. This is a course designed for anyone currently in leadership in the church or at work; or for anyone who is considering that they might be at some point in the future, whether that is working with a small group of children or adults, or taking on a specific responsibility in the church, at work or the community. The course publicity says: ‘It’s our hope that Growing Leaders will help equip leaders at every level of church life to be led more by Jesus, to lead more like Jesus and to lead more to Jesus.’ Interested? If you would like to know more please speak with Greg or with Sue Masters (07958322026).
Link Deliverer Needed
Volunteer to take over a round in Sutton Avenue. 153-203 and 162-204 (52 copies). Perhaps someone who lives there or close to would consider this delivery round. Please see or contact Barbara Warner 02476 403458/07846 288036. Many thanks in anticipation.
Bible Video Project
St Andrew’s will be making a short video in the new year, interviewing people about what they get out of reading the bible. We are looking for volunteers to speak to camera for about 40 seconds. We are looking for people who don’t mind talking about the difficulties as well as the joys of bible reading. If you might be interested, please speak to Sue Masters.
Please note that Greg, Phil, Julie and their families will be taking holiday between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve. Please contact Greg in an emergency. Julie will return to work on 8th January.
The Tile Hill Job Club, one of the great successes in which the church is involved, is looking for non-specialist volunteers to supplement the team, as welcomers, people with basic IT skills to help assist with job hunts and people to can spare a listening ear. For more information, please speak to Dawn Easthope at email@example.com
This week’s altar flowers were kindly donated by Trevor Hill.
– Doubt and faith are not opposites
– John the Baptist was the first to praise, to evangelise and to doubt
– When we doubt, we need to remind ourselves of all God has done for us
