Pews News – 3rd June 2018

3rd June 2018 – First Sunday after Trinity

St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Lynnette Clarke
We are pleased to report that Lynnette had a successful operation to remove her gall bladder and is slowly on the mend. She will be back amongst us in due course, but is for now grateful to receive visitors. Please call first.

Missional Strategy Team
We are starting a group to oversee the work of St Andrew’s and St Andy’s that reaches those who are not yet part of us, or do not yet know God’s love. If you are interested in being part of a working group to see how we can best reach the world (or at least the local area!) please contact Phil on

St Andy’s/St Andrew’s Liaison Committee
As St Andy’s moves into its 11th year we would like to form a group to ensure a continuing and strong relationship between the two congregations. If you would like to be part of a group that looks at ways to do this, please contact

After many, many years Diane Wilson has decided to hang up her mop. She has epitomised loyalty and professionalism in this role. In replacing her, we want to investigate whether it might be possible to recruit a band of volunteers to clean for an hour once a week. We probably need 5 people altogether to allow volunteers to take a week off when necessary. If you are interested in helping, please speak to Greg, Diane or Jackie Lynch.

Lunch n Chat
The Lunch n Chat team which supports newly bereaved people by providing a listening ear and serving light refreshments is looking to recruit an additional volunteer. If you would like to know more about this, please speak to Rita.

Allesley Green Residents Association
For all residents of Allesley Green, the AGM of the Residents Association takes place on Tuesday 5th June at 7pm at Park Hill School.

Social Media
We are looking to set up a small working group to develop policy around the church’s use of social media. Anyone willing to get involved with this should speak to Greg or Paul Crowe.

Ignatian Service
Our monthly Ignatian Service takes place tonight led by Greg on the theme of the Lost Sheep. A time for quiet and reflection. All welcome at 6.30pm.

Party in the Park
God blessed us with amazing sunshine (too hot for some!) for Party in the Park, which was the most successful ever, with approximately 2,000 attending and £750 raised towards church funds. We are grateful to Allesley Green Residents Association for working in partnership with us again. Special thanks go to Richard Marr, Julia McNaney and Julie Crow for their hard work on the organising committee and most of all to our loyal volunteers, who staffed stalls, baked cakes, arrived early or stayed late.

Altar Servers
We would like to supplement our small team of altar servers, who set up the altar for communion on an occasional basis. If you are able to help, please speak to Greg, Steve Wankling or Rita.

Screen Technician
We are looking to recruit an additional audio-visual operator to join our select team of Steve and Paul. This would only require a once in a while commitment on a Sunday morning to cover holidays. Full training provided. Concentration is the most important gift needed!

Drama Club
All Star Theatre Company (run by Emma, Greg and Selina at St Oswald’s Church) starts a new programme on Thursday 7th June from 6-7pm. This increasingly popular club for 8-12 year olds offers games, improvisation and performance opportunities in local schools. Please speak to one of the leaders for further information.

Thy Kingdom Come
Well done to everyone who committed themselves to praying for friends, family and community during the 10 day Thy Kingdom Come call to prayer. Special thanks to Lesley, Phil and Emma for setting up some wonderful prayer stations in church.

Altar Flowers
This week’s altar flowers were kindly donated by Rosemarie Over.
