Pews News – 7th October 2018

7th October 2018 – Nineteenth Sunday after Trinity

St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

We begin our Harvest celebrations this morning and continue next Sunday. Gifts of long-life food and fresh vegetables will be passed on to the foodbank in Tile Hill. Monetary gifts will be given to DFN UK, a charity that provides dignity and freedom for the poor, the marginalised and outcastes in South Asia.

Please note that Greg and Fran will be on holiday from 16th-20th October inclusive. Please contact Phil or the church office in an emergency.

Fundraising for Selah
A 9-year-old girl, Selah, a pupil at Eastern Green Junior School has recently very sadly been diagnosed with Chiari 1 Malformation and Neuro-Cranio-Vertebral Syndrome (Filum Disease). This is a rare and complex condition, causing numerous neurological and structural problems related to her brain and spine. Heartbreakingly, this condition has dramatically affected Selah’s mobility and has meant that a once very active, vibrant child, who has a passion for dancing and singing, has to now greatly depend upon a wheelchair to get around. The condition has left her suffering with constant pain, which sometimes becomes excruciating. The hope of her family is that they can raise enough funds to be able to take Selah over to Barcelona, in order for her to have life changing treatment, restoring her health and giving her back her mobility. Further details and access to the fundraising page can be found at:

Walking for Health
This group run various walks throughout the city and a copy of the list of walks can be found in the red folder at the back of church. In particular there is one from Tile Hill Library every Tuesday. The group are also looking for volunteers to help with leading the walks. If you are interested please contact Verity Tiff on 024 7646 8205 or 07425 179053.

Churchyard Fund
The PCC are keen to maintain the churchyard at its most pleasing, but it costs money we don’t have to pay for a full cutting, strimming and tidying regime. Anyone wishing to give to a churchyard fund too address this should place any gift in a clearly marked envelope. We are very grateful for the generous gifts already received.

We are really grateful to Carys Egner who has agreed to take over the role as Facebook administrator. We are looking for people to write devotions for us to post on our Facebook page. If you are interested or would like some more information, please email Carys on or speak to Greg.

There is a stairlift free to a good home available, with the offer of help with fitting. Please ring Andrew on 07940 023732.
