14th October 2018 – Twentieth Sunday after Trinity
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
We continue our Harvest celebrations this morning. Gifts of long-life food and fresh vegetables will be passed on to the foodbank in Tile Hill. Monetary gifts will be given to DFN UK, a charity that provides dignity and freedom for the poor, the marginalised and outcastes in South Asia. Grateful thanks to Denise Davies for supplying a Harvest Loaf.
Please note that Greg and Fran will be on holiday from 16th – 20th Oct inclusive. Please contact Phil or the church office in an emergency.
Thank you to everyone who has been praying for Olivia’s friend Lara over the past four years. Sadly, she passed peacefully away on Wednesday afternoon aged 17. She was one very brave and inspirational young lady. Please continue to hold Christine and John, Courtney and Kari in your prayers. Diane and Olivia.
To everyone who came and helped decorate the church for harvest and to everyone who gave so generously towards the cost of the flowers. Also, thank you to Faye for providing the greenery and some lovely dahlias. The bride and family loved the flowers at the wedding on Saturday. Ann Dove.
We would like to thank everyone for the cards and best wishes we received on our Diamond Wedding Anniversary. It made a very special occasion extra special with the warmth we felt from so many of our friends in the congregation. God bless you all. Stan and Beryl Cooper.

St Andrew’s and St Andy’s Light Party
We are holding a Light Party for primary aged children, Wednesday October 31st, 5pm-6.30pm in St Andrew’s Church. Invitations and registration forms for our Light party are available now from Becky, Shirley, Emma or Hilary. There will be crafts, games, a snack tea and lots of fun! Please bring a torch with you! Request to borrow torches. If any member of the congregation has a torch they are willing to lend us, please put your name on it and give it to Becky, Nick or Hilary. Many thanks.
Our beautiful new carved oak font has been dedicated by the Archdeacon Pastor, Sue Field, at a special Songs of Praise service. Please visit the website or Facebook to see pictures of this very special occasion.
Silence in Church!
Please remember that the period during the administration of communion is for prayer. There may be some singing or music, but there shouldn’t be general chatter. We understand that children may make excited noises, but there is no need for grown ups to add to the hubbub.
An Act of Remembrance – 100 Years on. A Weekend of Commemoration
St Andrew’s Church will be marking the centenary of World War 1 with a special exhibition on Saturday 10th November from 10am to 4pm, leading then in to our Act of Remembrance on Sunday 11th November within the Communion Service at 10am. The exhibition will be divided into three important elements.
1) The contribution made by people from our parish, who are remembered on the plaque in church, especially those who made the supreme sacrifice. It will build the link between Eastern Green and the wider conflict.
2) We will remember the role played by the people of Coventry – The Home Front. Focusing especially on the impact of the war on the women of Coventry.
3) There will be an opportunity for people to take time to remember and commemorate with their own personal act of remembrance on the day.
On this special anniversary, this will be a unique opportunity for everyone to commemorate and learn a little more about how World War 1 touched the lives of those we remember each year.
We want to create a living wall to those who fought in WW1 and survived. On the plaque in church there are 30 soldiers who we believe returned and we want to appeal to anyone with information and a photo of them to bring them along to be included in the exhibition. The soldiers names are: L CPL H.J. ARNOLD, PTE W.J. MALLIER, L CPL G.E. BAND, PTE A. MOTT, PTE E.J. BLOXHAM, GNR W.B. NEAL, PTE G. BRITTAIN, SPR ALEC B. PLANT, CPL A.T. CLAPTON, PTE ALF B. Seek His Face
Our monthly gathering for prayer, praise and prophecy takes places tonight at 6.30pm. Our guest speaker is Jenny Campbell, who will be talking to us about hearing from God. If you have a gift of hearing God’s voice, come and share it. If you would like to know more about how you can hear from God in your life, you may find this very useful. All welcome.
The next Kidz Praise service for Primary School children and their families takes place on Thursday 18th October. Doors open at 3.15pm for toast, craft and games. The short service starts at 4pm with songs, stories and prayers. All welcome.
The PCC are keen to maintain the churchyard at its most pleasing, but it costs money we don’t have to pay for a full cutting, strimming and tidying regime. Anyone wishing to give to a churchyard fund to address this should place any gift in a clearly marked envelope. We are very grateful for the generous gifts already received.
Our annual Memorial Service takes place on Sunday 4th November at 6.30pm. At this very special service, we will be remembering by name all those who have died in the parish over the last 12 months. If your loved one died more than a year ago, we would still be pleased to read their name. Please give this in writing to Rita or Julie by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
We are really grateful to Carys Egner who has agreed to take over the role as Facebook administrator. She can be contacted at email@example.com. We are hoping to keep Facebook updated with occasional devotional contributions. Anyone willing to offer an occasional piece should speak to Greg.
A 6-week version of the Alpha course will be taking place at the Vicarage on Wednesday evenings starting Weds 7th November at 7pm. This is an excellent way to learn about the Christian faith, with no prior knowledge expected. It’s also a good chance to get to know others in church. For further information, please speak to Greg or Dan Smith. To register a place, contact Julie at firstname.lastname@example.org or 07756 918847.
Anyone wishing to be confirmed at Coventry Cathedral on Saturday 24th November or who would like to know more about what Confirmation entails should speak to Greg.
There is a stairlift free to a good home available, with the offer of help with fitting. Please ring Andrew on 07940 023732.
We now have a band of volunteers who have agreed to take on the cleaning of the church. It would be helpful still to have one or two more. If you would like to know more about what it entails please speak to Greg, Fran or Jackie Lynch.
If you have been kind enough to sponsor those of us who walked the Heart of England Way in August, please settle up as soon as you can. If you didn’t, additional gifts will still be gratefully received.
