10th February 2019 – The Fourth Sunday before Lent
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
This week we are concluding a series of sessions about the creation, as told in the Book of Genesis. The children have enjoyed craft activities, role play and songs on this theme. As half term begins next week, there will be no Children’s Church in the school hall on 17th February. Parents are welcome to use the craft activities with their children in the side room during the 10am service on this Sunday. Children’s Church re-opens on 24th February when we will begin a series of sessions finding out about some of Jesus’ miracles. We hope the children and their families have a lovely holiday and we look forward to seeing you all next half term.
Children’s Society Boxes
It’s that time of year again! The annual collection of the boxes. If you could bring your box to church, or alternatively I will collect from you. Once again, I take the opportunity to thank all of you who have stayed loyal to this worthy charity for so long. I cannot believe I have been collecting from you for 21 years! Look forward to seeing you soon. Jackie Lynch
To all my dear friends at St Andrew’s
I would like to thank you all so much, for your prayers, cards, flowers and messages of concern, following my recent heart operation. It has been a difficult time, but I am well on the way to a full recovery, and hope to back amongst you all very soon. God bless you all. Betty Rippingale
Anyone who has been conscious of God’s healing power at work, since the Healing Service should let one of the Healing Team know. Anything shared will be kept confidential, but it is always a great encouragement to know how God has been at work amongst us.
Our fortnightly service for pre-school children and their carers is called Tots Praise. We meet every other Tuesday, the next one being the 12th. The doors are open from 8.45am with refreshments being served and craft activities for the little ones. The service, which consists of songs, stories and prayers starts at 9.15am. The theme next time will be Rules from God.
Eastern Greeners will be sorry to hear of the sudden death of Bob Littlewood, who has lived at the top of Church Lane for the last 35 years and has undertaken building work for large numbers of parishioners. Bob’s funeral takes place tomorrow, February 11th, at 10am followed by a reception at the Eastern Green club. Please remember Bob and his family in your prayers.
The Link Magazine
At the last PCC meeting, the PCC reluctantly took the decision to bring to an end the Link as a paper magazine. Therefore, the February magazine will be the last in the current format. From March 1st onwards, the Link will be published online in a full colour digital format, which will be easily accessed directly through the St Andrew’s website, Facebook, My Eastern Green or the Allesley Green Residents Association website. It will contain all the usual content, except the advertising. We understand that this is a sad moment in the history of the parish and that not necessarily everyone will be able to access the new format. However, at a time when the church is struggling to make ends meet, we simply cannot afford to run a magazine, making a loss of £1500 per year and rising. Do pray for the continued success of the Link in reaching a new audience without losing its old. Finally, eternal thanks to the Link Team of Tracey, Richard and Barbara; and to all the faithful deliverers of the magazine.
The AGM of Eastern Green Village Hall takes place next Wednesday at 8pm. Anyone who lives in Eastern Green, Allesley Green or Bannerbrook is entitled to attend and vote.
Seek His Face
Our monthly gathering for listening prayer, prophetic word and praise takes place tonight at 6.30pm.
We will be continuing our series on Isaiah next week.
|Feb 10th||Isaiah 53.1-12||Phil Richardson|
|Feb 17th||Isaiah 40.21-31||Nick Tooby|
If you haven’t already got a companion booklet, with an introduction to Isaiah and a reading plan, please take one with you this morning.
Every six years, our Electoral Roll has to be renewed. 2019 is such a year. Everyone who has previously been on the Electoral Roll should fill out a very short form to reapply. There are a number of advantages to being on the Electoral Roll around rights to baptism, funerals and weddings, as well as eligibility for church office and voting rights at the AGM. It is also vital to St Andrew’s to have the most reliable record of its membership, so we would urge everyone to take 2 minutes to do this. Forms are available from Greg, Phil or Lesley Harrison, our Electoral Roll officer. Anyone who lives in the parish or who has worshipped at St Andrew’s for 6 months or more is eligible.
Every two years, we conduct a discipleship survey and that time has come around again. For the results to be truly useful, we need everyone who comes to St Andrew’s and/or St Andy’s to fill in a sheet. It only takes 60 seconds. Thanks for your help.
BCDM Module on Prayer
St Andrew’s Church is hosting a BCDM Module again this year and the theme is Prayer. This interactive module will give opportunities to learn about as well as participate in different styles, methods and experiences of prayer. It will look at prayers in the Bible, different types and styles of prayer, the links between different spiritualities and methods of prayer and active methods of praying such as ‘prayer walks’ and ‘prayer stations’. Running during Lent this is an opportunity open to everyone to focus on prayer and on ways to develop your prayer life. Dates and Time: Thursday evenings 7:00-9:30pm, 7th March – 4th April. If you want to participate you need to register www.dioceseofcoventry.org/BCDMregister. If you want to know more please speak with Sue Masters.
To Cara and Peter who are to be married next Saturday.
We will be dramatizing the story of the last week of Jesus’ life on Palm Sunday at our 10am service. Greg would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to help with this, whether by a small acting part or costumes or in any other way.
All the tickets for the Elvis Tribute evening have now been sold. Don’t miss out on your tickets for the Quiz Night which takes place at the Massey Ferguson Social Club on Friday 1st March at 7pm. Lunch n Chat Mark 2
Lunch n Chat which has been running for over 10 years has been extremely successful in providing comfort and company to those newly bereaved. Because of the success of the group, we are launching a parallel group on Tuesday lunch times on 26th February. If you know anyone who is newly bereaved and might wish to come along, please put them in touch with us.
