24th February 2019 – The Second Sunday before Lent
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
The Link Magazine
The PCC have reluctantly taken the decision to bring to an end the Link as a paper magazine. Therefore, the February magazine will be the last in the current format. From March 1st onwards, the Link will be published online in a full colour digital format, which will be easily accessed directly through the St Andrews website, Facebook, My Eastern Green or the Allesley Green Residents Association website. It will contain all the usual content, except the advertising. We understand that this is a sad moment in the history of the parish and that not necessarily everyone will be able to access the new format. However, at a time when the church is struggling to make ends meet, we simply cannot afford to run a magazine, making a loss of £1500 per year and rising. Do pray for the continued success of the Link in reaching a new audience without losing its old. Finally, eternal thanks to the Link Team of Tracey, Richard and Barbara; and to all the faithful deliverers of the magazine.
Children’s Society Boxes
It’s that time of year again! The annual collection of the boxes. If you could bring your box to church, or alternatively I will collect from you. Once again, I take the opportunity to thank all of you who have stayed loyal to this worthy charity for so long. I cannot believe I have been collecting from you for 21 years! Look forward to seeing you soon. Jackie Lynch
Kidz Klub Easter Egg Appeal
Kidz Klub gives each child who comes to the Easter special club an Easter egg. Following last year’s success, we would love to give at least some of the children real Easter eggs. The cost of the eggs is about four times our budget for Easter eggs, which is why we’re asking for help from our partner churches. We would love you to ask your congregations to either buy a real Easter egg for a Kidz Klub child, or make a donation so that we can purchase them on their behalf. A sign-up sheet can be found at the back of church. Please note that donations are needed by Monday 25th March. Thank you.
Every six years, our Electoral Roll has to be renewed. 2019 is such a year. Everyone who has previously been on the Electoral Roll should fill out a very short form to reapply. There are a number of advantages to being on the Electoral Roll around rights to baptism, funerals and weddings, as well as eligibility for church office and voting rights at the AGM. It is also vital to St Andrew’s to have the most reliable record of its membership, so we would urge everyone to take 2 minutes to do this. Forms are available from Greg, Phil or Lesley Harrison, our Electoral Roll officer. Anyone who lives in the parish or who has worshipped at St Andrew’s for 6 months or more is eligible.
We will be dramatising the story of the last week of Jesus’ life on Palm Sunday at our 10am service. Greg would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to help with this, whether by a small acting part or costumes or in any other way.
Don’t miss out on your tickets for the Quiz Night which takes place at the Massey Ferguson Social Club on Friday 1st March at 7pm. Tickets are available from Rita Muir or Ann Smith at a cost of £9 adults or £5 children, including fish and chips or an alternative. Also, there will be a Barn Dance at Masseys on Saturday 9th March at 7pm. Tickets which include a ploughman’s supper are now on sale at £10 adults and £5 children (under 14) available from Rita Muir and in church.
All Star Theatre Company
A new term of activities begins on Tuesday 26th February at 6pm at Our Lady of the Assumption Church hall. Drama for 8-12 year olds. Please speak to Greg, Emma or Selina for further information.
Anyone who would like to read at the Ash Wednesday service at 7pm on Wednesday 6th March should speak to Greg or contact Julie. Please return Palm Crosses by Sunday 3rd March.
Lunch n Chat Mark 2
Lunch n Chat which has been running for over 10 years has been extremely successful in providing comfort and company to those newly bereaved. Because of the success of the group, we are launching a parallel group on Tuesday lunch times on 26th February. If you know anyone who is newly bereaved and might wish to come along, please put them in touch with us.
Cleaning Team Holiday Cover
We would be grateful for one to two people to join the loyal band of cleaners on an occasional basis as holiday cover. If you’re able to help, please speak to Jackie Lynch.
Teaching on Prayer
During Lent there is an opportunity open to everyone to learn more about prayer. The Diocese is offering these interactive sessions focusing on ways to develop your prayer life. It will look at prayers in the Bible, different types and styles of prayer, the links between different spiritualties and methods of prayer and will offer interactive sessions on active methods of praying such as ‘prayer walks’ and ‘prayer stations’. St Andrew’s Church is hosting the sessions as part of the Bishops’ Certificate in Discipleship and Mission (BCDM) over five weeks during Lent. Dates and Time: Thursday evenings 7:00-9:30pm, 7th March – 4th April. If you want to participate you need to register www.dioceseofcoventry.org/BCDMregister. If you want to know more please speak with Sue Masters.
This week’s altar flowers were kindly donated by Julia McNaney.
Please pray for Ollie Blundred, Colin Sanders, Joan Drake, Derek Shale, Flix Haynes, Norah Hall, Mary Lee, Dennis Sinclair, Josie Yates, Ann Crowley, Stan Cooper, Beryl Lee and Rosemary Pottinger. To add names to the list please contact Julie at firstname.lastname@example.org or 07756 918847.
