23rd June 2019 – First Sunday after Trinity
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
To Emma and Sean on the birth of their baby son, Austin Paul Wildman, born in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Please pray for Austin who was 9 weeks premature and is currently in special care, but doing well. We are currently working hard to ensure that Emma’s role as Children’s Worker is covered during her maternity leave, which has started unexpectedly early.
Please pray for Anne, who will be ordained Priest at Coventry Cathedral next Sunday morning.
Parish Safeguarding Handbook – An urgent reminder to all church leaders
All church leaders and members of the PCC have been given a copy of the Parish Safeguarding handbook which you are required to read. There is a signature list on the noticeboard at the back of church for you to sign and date to declare that you have read this. Please could you do this before the end of June. If you have any queries please speak to Linda Chylinski.
The kitchen will be out of action from Monday 24th June to Friday 12th July. On 26th & 27th June access beyond the double doors to the side room will not be possible because of floor screeding in process.
Holiday Club 2019
Following last year’s successful holiday club, we will be open once again for more crafts, games and fun for 5-11 year olds on Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th July from 9am-2pm in Kenthurst Scout Hut. The cost will be £11 per day or £25 for all three days. To request a registration form, please contact Julie during office hours 8am – 2pm Mon & Wed & 8am – 12 noon on Friday. Tel: 07756 918847 or email email@example.com
Holiday Club Volunteers
The Children’s Council are looking for a few more volunteers to help out with the holiday club on 22nd, 23rd and 24th July, 9am-2pm. It would be a help even if you can only volunteer for one day. You will need to have a DBS check and follow our safer recruitment procedure. For further information, please contact Hilary on 07980 596646.
Boxes and Cartons for Holiday Club
We are planning to make ‘junk models’ at holiday club so we need lots of empty boxes, packets, yoghurt pots etc. There will be a box for them at the back of church, but in view of the work being done in the sideroom, it would be more helpful if you could keep them at home for the next few weeks and bring them on 21st July. Alternatively, give me a ring on 07980 596646 and I will come and collect them from you. Thank you! Hilary
I am collecting stamps for charity and should be grateful for any donations however small. You can either give them to me or leave in an envelope at the back of Church. Many thanks. Gill Tunnicliffe.
Altar setting up
We have a small, dedicated band of altar servers, which needs additional people. Setting up the altar is fairly straightforward, and full training will be given. Volunteers will be asked to arrive at church for 9.30am. Please speak to Rita if you would like to know more.
After many years of loyal service, Jackie Page has decided to lay down responsibility for coordinating our Shawl Ministry. We would like to find a replacement as soon as possible. If you would like to know more about what this entails, please speak to Jackie or Lynnette.
Thanks to all those who cooperated with the 2019 Transport survey. It was encouraging to learn that the numbers walking to church have increased from 13% to 17% over the last 12 months, although the numbers driving and not sharing transport have also increased. The survey also shows that everyone who attends St Andy’s goes by car, which rather underlines why West Coventry Academy is an unsuitable venue for us.
Plans are afoot for a live Nativity at Christmas. Anyone who would like to help as part of the planning team should speak to Greg.
We are looking for an additional volunteer who would be willing on an occasional basis to operate the PowerPoint for the screens on Sunday morning. The volunteer would be expected to help once every couple of months or so.
We are sad to announce the death of Derek Shale, a very long-time member at St Andrews. Derek’s funeral will take place at 1.30pm on Tuesday 25th June at St Andrew’s. Please pray for Margaret and the family at this time.
Serving those in Need
At last Tuesday’s session, we heard representatives from Foodbank, Job Club and Christians Against Poverty. All these ministries which are designed to help those most in need are looking for further volunteers. If you want to know more as to how you can help, please speak to Jackie Lynch (Foodbank), Stephen Warne (Job Club) or Terri Beales (CAP). This Tuesday’s session is on serving those in Emotional Need. It will take place at 7.30pm at the Vicarage.
A reminder of the benefit of giving by Direct Debit. It means being able to support the work of the church even when you’re not able to be here. It means not having to search for money to put on the plate just before leaving home on a Sunday morning. It means the Church can budget with much more confidence, knowing what money is coming in. It really does make a huge difference! We are also wanting to encourage people to consider remembering St Andrews in their wills. Even a small percentage of your estate could make a huge difference to the ongoing mission of the Church.
Thanks to two generous grants from WREN (Waste Recycling Environment Ltd) and National Grid, and the additional extremely generous support from many members of the congregation, we are able to proceed with a much-needed refurbishment of our kitchen and side room. Many thanks to those who have been so generous. Work begins tomorrow! The kitchen and side room will be out of action for three weeks until July 6th. Activities in the side room have been cancelled or relocated. If unsure, please ask a churchwarden.
Lunch n Chat
Lunch n Chat has been running very successfully for many years, offering support to those who have been bereaved. We are currently looking for an additional helper for the 4th Weds of the month from 11.30am-1.30pm. Duties include serving meals, making tea and chatting to the guests. If you would like to know more, please speak to Rita Muir.
This year’s sponsored walk is ‘From Bubbenhall to Bidford’, following the Shakespeare Avon Way and visiting 8 different churches, entailing a total of 34 miles of walking country lanes and fields. We will be raising money for Kidz Klub and St Andrew’s. Anyone is welcome to join us even if only to do one leg of 3-4 miles. Please see Greg or Veronika for further details.

Transport for Medical Appointments
St Andrew’s is planning to launch a new service in the autumn, offering lifts to medical appointments at Coventry doctors and hospital. In order to do this, we need volunteer drivers who would be willing to help out on an occasional basis with a lift to the hospital or doctors. Full training and briefing will be provided. Any expression of interest will not be taken as a firm commitment at this stage. All volunteers will be subject to a DBS check for safeguarding purposes. If you would like to know more, please contact Julie 07756 918847 or firstname.lastname@example.org
