3rd November 2019 – The Fourth Sunday before Advent
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
A Special Welcome
To all those attending today for our Memorial Service in which we are remembering those who have died over the last twelve months. Gone from us but still loved by us. We remember them with prayer and thanksgiving.
A big thank you to all the volunteers who came and decorated the church. To Denise Davies for baking our harvest loaf. And thanks to all those who brought food gifts, which will be taken to Tile Hill foodbank. Please remember to consider your food miles and shop for local produce where you can. Thank you to Fay Gibbs for the foliage and the beautiful dahlias from her garden. Finally, a very big thank you to everyone who donated towards the cost of the flowers, your generosity is much appreciated.
A Big Thank You
To Phil for the wonderful Wedding Blessing on October 19th. You made Karl and Amy’s day so special. A big thankyou also to Rebecca for all her planning ensuring everything went smoothly. A good time was had by all. Many thanks, Rita Muir
It is with great pleasure that I am able to confirm that the final amount collected in memory of Eddie and forwarded to Parkinson’s UK was £764. I would like to express my grateful thanks to all those who helped to raise this fantastic amount. Sara.
Please note that there is always someone willing to pray with you after the service about any need or concern you have. Please feel free to approach one of the prayer team direct or ask one of the clergy.
Next Sunday is Remembrance Sunday. Our Parish Communion service will include the Act of Remembrance at 11am.
Next Sunday evening, the biennial City Praise service takes place at the Welcome Centre in Parkside, where several hundred Christians come together to worship God and pray for our city and nation from 60-70 different churches. We are cancelling Seek His Face in order to support this. If you would like to go and need a lift or are able to offer someone else a lift, please speak to Greg.
Thanks to Julia McNaney, who has kindly agreed to take on the role of Shawl Ministry coordinator from Jackie Page. All our thanks to Jackie who has been doing this role for many years.
Many thanks to those who supported our annual Autumn Fayre last Saturday at the Village Hall. Thanks to all those who staffed stalls or helped with set up. Extra special thanks to Jackie Lynch, who worked so hard to organise it. Over £600.20 was raised towards church funds.
The dates for the Nativity 2019 ‘No room at the Inn’ have been set. Please put these in your diaries. Tickets will be on sale next week. Thurs Dec 12th and Fri Dec 13th at 6.30pm and Sat Dec 14th at 2.30pm. We are still looking for a wise man! (or woman) and people to help paint the scenery. Please speak to Greg or Kate Howarth.
We are looking for an additional volunteer who would be willing on an occasional basis to operate the PowerPoint for the screens on Sunday morning. The volunteer would be expected to help once every couple of months or so.
Would all users of the side room ensure that tables and chairs are only moved by lifting them from the floor. Dragging them is causing the new floor to be scratched.
Our next Tots Praise service for pre-school children and their families takes place on Tues Nov 12th at 9.15am. Craft, song and story for the whole family. All welcome.
The next Kidz Praise service for Primary School Children and their families takes place at 4pm next Thurs Nov 7th. Doors are open from 3.15pm for craft, toast and games, with the service of song, story and prayer commencing at 4pm. All welcome.
Please see the Jonathan Veira leaflet which details how to get tickets for this unique event, St Andrew’s principal fundraising event of the year.
Tea with Santa
Santa is once again coming to tea at St Andrew’s on 30th November in the Village Hall from 3.15-5pm. This event is for the whole family – children, parents and grandparents. Children must be accompanied by an adult, but you don’t have to come with a child to join in the fun! Tickets will be on sale from 3rd November until 24th November at a cost of £5 per person (adult and child). Any tickets bought after 24th November will be £6 per person. Numbers are strictly limited so please buy your tickets early. If you would like to register your interest now, please text Hilary on 07980 596646 or email me at email@example.com, stating your name, number of tickets required and a contact number. Thank you.
Children’s Hamper Request
We will be holding a raffle at Tea with Santa and are requesting items for a Children’s Hamper. The Children’s Team would be grateful if you could help us by donating suitable small items (packet of crayons/felt tip pens, colouring book, sweets, Christmas chocolate, Christmas stickers, skipping rope, paper chains, small craft set, small toy, Playdo, etc etc….) A box will be put at the back of church for any donations. Any spare ends of ribbon which can be used for a craft activity will also be gratefully received as will offers of cupcakes for the tea and help on the day. Very many thanks in advance from the Children’s Team.
Our next book club meeting is on Saturday 16th November from 9.30-11am in the vicarage. Everyone is welcome to come along. The book we are reading is: Searching for Sunday by Rachel Held Evans and this is an opportunity to discuss the book and gain insight from others. Each person will need a copy of the book (or access an audio version of the book) and need to have read it, or some of it before we meet. If you are interested please speak with Greg or Sue Masters.
I have come to a decision, that after next February, I will no longer be collecting the Society boxes. I will have done it for 22 years and feel I have served them well. I would like to think that someone will come forward to carry it on. It is collected once a year over about a month, counted and banked. If you feel you could do this and would like any further information, please let me know. Thank you everyone who has supported this worthy cause over the years, and you can still do this independently. Jackie Lynch
Congregation members and other supporters of the church are invited to respond to our appeal, in which we are seeking to raise £3,000 in gifts and pledges. The appeal is designed to support the work of St Andrew’s generally, but also three projects in particular: our new Youth Worker, Taste Life (support for those suffering with eating disorders) and St Andy’s need for a new, permanent venue. Please give generously either one-off gifts. Gifts should be placed in an envelope and marked clearly.
This Sunday, we start a series on generous giving

The sponsored 35 mile walk ‘From Bubbenhall to Bidford’, following the Shakespeare Avon Way was successfully completed on Sept 14th. If you were kind enough to sponsor us, please place your sponsorship offering in the basket at the back of church and cross your name off the list. If you didn’t get round to offering sponsorship, it’s not too late! Just put your money in the basket or go online and donate through our Just Giving page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/greg-smith-2. We are raising money for Kidz Klub and St Andrews. Kidz Klub will use the money to take Tile Hill children on outings.

Transport for Medical Appointments
St Andrew’s is planning to launch a new service in mid-November, offering lifts to medical appointments at Coventry doctors and hospital. In order to do this, we need volunteer drivers who would be willing to help out on an occasional basis with a lift to the hospital or doctors. Full training and briefing will be provided. Any expression of interest will not be taken as a firm commitment at this stage. You can limit your commitment in any way you see fit. All volunteers will be subject to a DBS check for safeguarding purposes. If you would like to know more, please speak to Greg or contact Julie 07756 918847 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Request for Christmas hampers to bless families of Kidz Klub Coventry children
Following the success of delivering Christmas hampers to Kidz Klub families in recent years, we are looking to do the same again this year. The hampers have been an incredible blessing to many of our families, reducing several parents to tears at the kindness expressed in the gift. In 2018 we gave away over 20 hampers to families around Coventry and it was an incredible privilege to do so; but we couldn’t do it without your help. Please could you consider if your church could put together some hampers to bless our families. More details of what could and should not go in the hamper can be found in the information sheet on the noticeboard at the back of church, along with packaging instructions. We are looking for a volunteer at St Andrew’s to coordinate this for us. Please speak to Greg if you are interested.
