10th November 2019 – The Third Sunday before Advent
St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.
Please note that there is always someone willing to pray with you after the service about any need or concern you have. Please feel free to approach one of the prayer team direct or ask one of the clergy.
This morning marks Remembrance Sunday. Our Parish Communion service will include the Act of Remembrance at 11am.
This evening, the biennial City Praise service takes place at the Welcome Centre in Parkside, where several hundred Christians come together to worship God and pray for our city and nation from 60-70 different churches. We have cancelled Seek His Face in order to support this. If you would like to go and need a lift or are able to offer someone else a lift, please speak to Greg.
We want to express our heartfelt thanks to you all for your cards, phone calls and messages of sympathy following the loss of our wonderful Mum. Thanks to everyone who was able to join us for Mum’s beautiful funeral service and for donations received for the Palliative Care Team’s charity. Thank you too for all your prayers for Mum throughout her illness; they really did bring her comfort. A special thank-you to Greg, Lesley, Kath and Joan for your ongoing visits and support to Mum over the past two and a half years; it meant so much to her and to us all. Love Liz, Deb and families xxxx
Safeguarding in Coventry Diocese
Over the next few months, the Diocese will be conducting a Past Cases Review. An independent reviewer will be looking at safeguarding files relating to church officers, to ensure all safeguarding matters have been reported and appropriate action taken. All parish records are being checked for either past or present concerns. Any instances of abuse will be examined and bought to light. For further information on this, please see leaflet on the noticeboard at the back of church.
Coffee Rota Volunteers Needed
Do you enjoy a nice cuppa after the service? If so, it’s thanks to a great team of faithful volunteers offering an extra hour or so after service every Sunday. We are now looking to put together a rota for 2020 to ensure we have sufficient people to serve coffee and tea. If you currently volunteer, please could you let Rosemarie know your availability. If you do not currently volunteer but would like to, we’re looking for new people to join and would really appreciate your help! Please see or telephone Rosemarie Over on 07778 397284.
Church Cleaning Opportunity
We have a very willing band of people who clean the church each week, but we are in need of more help please to share the burden. They clean the church on a Friday. The more volunteers we have the easier and quicker it is to clean. It would also mean we can set up two teams, so people aren’t required every week. The cleaning takes a couple of hours and is an important form of ministry. Many of our visitors comment on how lovely and clean the church looks when they visit and this doesn’t happen by chance, but by the efforts of those who clean. If you can help please speak to Jackie Lynch or one of the Churchwardens.
Advent Course 2019
With Christmas fast approaching why not take time out of the busyness to meet with others to look at the Bible and share the Good News of Christmas? At St. Andrew’s we are preparing for Christmas by holding a four-week Advent group and all are welcome. We will be meeting on Monday mornings, at 55 Handsworth Crescent, Eastern Green, starting on Monday 18th November and the sessions will run from 10.30am to 12 noon. We would love you to join us. If you would like to come or want to know more, please speak with me or call me on 07958 322026. Sue Masters.
Our next book club meeting is on Saturday 16th November from 9.30-11am in the vicarage. Everyone is welcome to come along. The book we are reading is: Searching for Sunday by Rachel Held Evans. Each person will need a copy of the book (or access an audio version of the book) and need to have read it, or some of it before we meet. If you are interested please speak with Greg or Sue Masters.
A big thank you to all the volunteers who came and decorated the church. Thank you to Fay Gibbs for the foliage and the beautiful dahlias from her garden. Finally, a very big thank you to everyone who donated towards the cost of the flowers, your generosity is much appreciated. God bless, Ann Dove.
It is with great pleasure that I am able to confirm that the final amount collected in memory of Eddie and forwarded to Parkinson’s UK was £764. I would like to express my grateful thanks to all those who helped to raise this fantastic amount. Sara

Santa is once again coming to tea at St Andrew’s on 30th November in the Village Hall from 3.15-5.00pm. This event is for the whole family – children, parents and grandparents. Numbers are strictly limited so please buy your tickets early. Thank you.
Children’s Hamper Request
We will be holding a raffle at Tea with Santa and are requesting items for a Children’s Hamper. The Children’s Team would be grateful if you could help us by donating suitable small items (packet of crayons/felt tip pens, colouring book, sweets, Christmas chocolate, Christmas stickers, skipping rope, paper chains, small craft set, small toy, Playdo, etc etc….) A box will be put at the back of church for any donations. Any spare ends of ribbon which can be used for a craft activity will also be gratefully received as will offers of cupcakes for the tea and help on the day. Very many thanks in advance from the Children’s Team.
“Our Nation is in crisis and our world is troubled. “PRAYING TOGETHER” – an opportunity to hold our community, our troubled nation and specific areas of the world in prayer will be held next Sunday, 17th November at 6.30 pm. All are welcome to join us. See members of the Prayer Ministry Team for further details.”
Request for Christmas hampers to bless families of Kidz Klub Coventry children
Following the success of delivering Christmas hampers to Kidz Klub families in recent years, we are looking to do the same again this year. The hampers have been an incredible blessing to many of our families, reducing several parents to tears at the kindness expressed in the gift. In 2018 we gave away over 20 hampers to families around Coventry and it was an incredible privilege to do so; but we couldn’t do it without your help. Please could you consider if your church could put together some hampers to bless our families. More details of what could and should not go in the hamper can be found in the information sheet on the noticeboard at the back of church, along with packaging instructions. We are looking for a volunteer at St Andrew’s to coordinate this for us. Please speak to Greg if you are interested.
Thanks to Julia McNaney, who has kindly agreed to take on the role of Shawl Ministry coordinator from Jackie Page. All our thanks to Jackie who has been doing this role for many years.
The dates for the Nativity 2019 ‘No room at the Inn’ have been set. Please put these in your diaries. Tickets will be on sale next week. Thurs Dec 12th and Fri Dec 13th at 6.30pm and Sat Dec 14th at 2.30pm. We are still looking for people to help paint the scenery. Please speak to Greg or Kate Howarth.
We are looking for an additional volunteer who would be willing on an occasional basis to operate the PowerPoint for the screens on Sunday morning. The volunteer would be expected to help once every couple of months or so.
Would all users of the side room ensure that tables and chairs are only moved by lifting them from the floor. Dragging them is causing the new floor to be scratched.
Our next Tots Praise service for pre-school children and their families takes place on Tuesday November 12th at 9.15am. Craft, song and story for the whole family. All welcome.
Please see the Jonathan Veira leaflet which details how to get tickets for this unique event, St Andrew’s principal fundraising event of the year.
Congregation members and other supporters of the church are invited to respond to our appeal, in which we are seeking to raise £3,000 in gifts and pledges. The appeal is designed to support the work of St Andrew’s generally, but also three projects in particular: our new Youth Worker, Taste Life (support for those suffering with eating disorders) and St Andy’s need for a new, permanent venue. Please give generously either one-off gifts. Gifts should be placed in an envelope and marked clearly.
This Sunday, we continue a series on generous giving:

Transport for Medical Appointments
St Andrew’s is planning to launch a new service in mid-November, offering lifts to medical appointments at Coventry doctors and hospital. In order to do this, we need volunteer drivers who would be willing to help out on an occasional basis with a lift to the hospital or doctors. Full training and briefing will be provided. Any expression of interest will not be taken as a firm commitment at this stage. You can limit your commitment in any way you see fit. All volunteers will be subject to a DBS check for safeguarding purposes. If you would like to know more, please speak to Greg or contact Julie 07756 918847 or email@example.com
