24th November 2019 – The Sunday next before Advent

St Andrew’s Church welcomes allcomers, whether this is your first time or thousandth time in church. You are welcome whatever your age, gender, marital status, disability, race or sexuality. You are welcome whether you have a deep and mature faith in Christ; are uncertain and still seeking; or have no faith. If you are new to church, please do take a welcome leaflet to be found in the pews; and do not hesitate to ask one of the welcomers if you have any queries.

Prayer Available

Advent Course 2019
With Christmas fast approaching why not take time out of the busyness to meet with others to look at the Bible and share the Good News of Christmas? At St. Andrew’s we are preparing for Christmas by holding a four-week Advent group and all are welcome. We will be meeting on Monday mornings, at 55 Handsworth Crescent, Eastern Green, starting on Monday 18th November and the sessions will run from 10.30am to 12 noon. We would love you to join us. If you would like to come or want to know more, please speak with me or call me on 07958 322026. Sue Masters

Christmas Hampers
Following the success of delivering Christmas hampers to Kidz Klub families in recent years, we are looking to do the same again this year. The hampers have been an incredible blessing to many of our families, reducing several parents to tears at the kindness expressed in the gift. In 2018 we gave away over 20 hampers to families around Coventry and it was an incredible privilege to do so; but we couldn’t do it without your help. Please could you consider if your church could put together some hampers to bless our families. More details of what could and should not go in the hamper can be found in the information sheet on the noticeboard at the back of church, along with packaging instructions. We are looking for a volunteer at St Andrew’s to coordinate this for us. Please speak to Greg if you are interested.

Save the Date – Parish weekend 15th to 17th May 2020
With Christmas not far away, I want to encourage you to think about next Spring and the St Andrew’s Parish Weekend. Following two successful weekends we are doing it again in 2020 and would love you to join us. What is it? A weekend away for members of St Andrew’s/St Andy’s to come together for bible teaching, worship, prayer and fellowship. Where is it? Shallowford house, Staffordshire (about an hour’s drive from Coventry. Who is it for? Everyone including children. Interested? Want to know more? Speak with Sue Masters or Greg. We are happy to take deposits or to start a saving plan if that helps. Please speak with Sue about this. (07958322026,

Safeguarding in Coventry Diocese
Over the next few months, the Diocese will be conducting a Past Cases Review. An independent reviewer will be looking at safeguarding files relating to church officers, to ensure all safeguarding matters have been reported and appropriate action taken. All parish records are being checked for either past or present concerns. Any instances of abuse will be examined and bought to light. For further information on this, please see leaflet on the noticeboard at the back of church.

Church Cleaning Opportunity
We have a very willing band of people who clean the church each week, but we are in need of more help please to share the burden. They clean the church on a Friday. The more volunteers we have the easier and quicker it is to clean. It would also mean we can set up two teams, so people aren’t required every week. The cleaning takes a couple of hours and is an important form of ministry. Many of our visitors comment on how lovely and clean the church looks when they visit and this doesn’t happen by chance, but by the efforts of those who clean. If you can help please speak to Jackie Lynch or one of the Churchwardens.

Book Club
Our next book club meeting is on Thursday 23rd January 2020, 7.30-9pm, at 55 Handsworth Crescent and everyone is welcome to come along. The book we are reading is: The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce a novel centred on a man who goes to post a letter and ends up walking 600 miles. The group is an opportunity to discuss the book and gain insight from others. Each person will need a copy of the book (or access an audio version of the book) and need to have read some of it before we meet. If you are interested please speak with Greg or Sue Masters.

Shawl Ministry
Thanks to Julia McNaney, who has kindly agreed to take on the role of Shawl Ministry coordinator from Jackie Page. All our thanks to Jackie who has been doing this role for many years.

We are looking for an additional volunteer who would be willing on an occasional basis to operate the PowerPoint for the screens on Sunday morning. The volunteer would be expected to help once every couple of months or so.

Tots Praise
Our next Tots Praise service for pre-school children and their families takes place on Tuesday 26th November at 9.15am, with doors open and refreshments served from 8.45am. Story, song and craft on the theme of friendship. All welcome.

Side Room
Would all users of the side room ensure that tables and chairs are only moved by lifting them from the floor. Dragging them is causing the new floor to be scratched.

Toy Service
Our annual Toy Service takes place next Sunday at 10am. Please bring new, unwrapped toys to place under the tree. These will be distributed via Coventry City Mission to children in the city who might otherwise be without this Christmas.

Darkness to Light
We begin Advent with a candlelit service of praise: Darkness to Light next Sunday at 6.30pm. All welcome to this very powerful start to the Advent season.

Generous Giving
This Sunday, we complete our series on generous giving as Greg speaks to us about being generous with our money.
