It will be Church, but not as we have known it. We are still waiting for detailed guidelines before we can be sure what church will look like when we reopen. But we can be confident that many of the things that make church what it is will be denied to us. These may include singing our favourite hymns; receiving bread and wine; standing next to a friend and chatting with them after the service. It raises again that age-old question: why do people come to church? We do so in response to scripture which encourages us “Do not give up meeting together” Heb 10.25 and sets us an example c/f Acts 2.42-47. There are two things of which we may be sure. Numbers attending worship will be severely restricted for a while; and yet where two or three are gathered, there I am among them!
Thanks to Lynnette, Sue, Paul and the rest for putting yesterday morning’s service together. It’s great to know that there are over 100 people watching, most at the same time
We will be continuing the Wednesday gathering through July and August, meeting via zoom at 10 a.m. each week. We will be studying St Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. There will be plenty on input to give fresh insights into Paul’s teaching as well as the opportunity to reflect on what it means for our lives today. The passage for this coming Weds is Ephesians 1.3-10. Through the summer months, St Andy’s will be focusing on the same passages.
Reopening for Worship
Please look out for the Weds bulletin, which will give details about when and how we will reopen for worship. Online worship will continue to be provided as before for as long as necessary. Please remember that the building is open every Thursday and Sunday for private prayer.
Feeding the hungry
Foodbanks in Coventry which are overwhelmingly staffed by church volunteers have provided an incredible 61 tons of food during the Covid outbreak. The food hub in Tile Hill is staffed by St Andy’s and St Andrew’s volunteers. It opens on Tues and Thurs mornings from 10-12. With volunteers returning to paid employment, there is a need for volunteers to come forward. If you are interested please contact Phil on firstname.lastname@example.org or Natalie on email@example.com
For your prayers
Do pray for the meeting tonight in which we will be planning how best to reopen the church for live worship. Pray also for our drama group which has started meeting online on Tuesday evenings. Some of the children have been going through very tough times during lockdown and we are pleased to be able to offer them some encouragement.
Please note we are unable to offer lifts to the hospital and other medical appointments at the moment, until restrictions are lifted.
A reminder that we are here to shop or pick up prescriptions etc. Please don’t wait until the cupboards are bare to ask for help. A couple of days’ notice would be helpful. Please contact Julie for assistance on 07756 918847 or firstname.lastname@example.org
To Nick, Diane, Phil & Denise who have kindly volunteered to clean the church to help us reopen with confidence. Thanks also to Rob and Valerie who continue to maintain the cremation plot.
