Bulletin – 3rd July 2020

Church Bulletin

The Corona virus achieved what Hitler, Napoleon and the Spanish Armada all failed to do, and closed the churches of England. Of course, some of you will remember the winter of 2005 when the St Andrew’s Church boiler was condemned and after a week or two of members braving sub-zero temperatures, the church was abandoned and we all met in the school next door. On this occasion, the period of exile has been of similar length, but we have had to console ourselves with online worship and have been denied the fellowship that is so precious to us. It will be strange to share worship with real live human beings this Sunday, unlike anything we have experienced over the last three months, but also unlike what went before. I find myself reminded of the words of Psalm 84 which testify to a hunger for God, but also for His House. “Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.”

Reopening for Worship

After more than three months, St Andrews will be open for worship this coming Sunday, July 5th at 10 a.m. We will be very limited in what we will do on the first Sunday and will try and replicate the online experience as closely as we can. This means that worshippers will have the same readings and sermons; the same hymns which will be played on the screens (we are not allowed to sing) and won’t on this occasion include communion. Please do not attend unless you have received a personal invitation. We will have to turn you away to ensure social distancing. The church building will be closed after the service to ensure it is safe for our first post-covid funeral on Weds morning. The church will be open for private prayer as usual on Thursday.

There are a very limited number of churches opening in Coventry on Sunday. Indeed, there are whole dioceses (e.g. Bristol) where no church is opening until September. While only a limited number of people are going to be able to take advantage, we are delighted that St Andrews is one that will be open. This is only possible because of the incredible hard work and commitment of a dedicated leadership team and technical wizards. They are heroes!

We will be meeting for coffee after the service on Sunday at 11 a.m. as usual. If you need the zoom link please contact Greg.

Volunteer drivers

We are looking for volunteer drivers to deliver breakfast packs around Tile Hill over the summer holidays. These are designed to supplement the free meals for children awarded by the government, but considered to be inadequate by many. You would be free to choose which days you are available and how often. If you would like to help or want to know more, please contact Julie at administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk

Jigsaw Puzzles

We have many 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles and some 500-piece puzzles which may be useful for people over the next few months. If you would like one please contact Julie on 07756 918847 or administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk. If you are unable to collect a jigsaw please give me a call and I can arrange for one to be delivered to you.

Children’s Sheet

Please pray for

A united and happy fellowship whether we are worshipping online or live.
