I go through many agonies each week trying to compose something profound for these bulletins. And which one gets all the feedback? The one about the dog! Thank you for all your expressions of concern. She is absolutely fine. I remember on one particularly bad day when I had been weeping, was emotionally and physically exhausted not having eaten or drunk all day, my youngest son, just before sharing something with me, prefacing his remarks by saying “don’t laugh”. I reflected that I had never felt less like laughing in all my life and how I wouldn’t be able to laugh even if paid hundreds of pounds. He then proceeded to tell me how special Daisy was to him and in spite of myself a broad smile broke out across my face. It reminds me of the old joke: if you want to know which one loves you most – your wife or your dog – try locking them both in the boot of your car for an hour and see which one is pleased to see you when you let them out. Dogs greet you with unconditional love, always overwhelmed with joy to see you even if you’ve only popped out to the shops for five minutes. This is a window onto the love of God: who rejoices in us on all occasions no matter how badly we treat Him or forget Him.
The Vicarage telephone line is still down. If you need to speak to Greg, please call him on his mobile on 07902 794653 or email and he will call you. If you have left a message on his answer machine in the last few days, he may not have received it. The phone will sound like it is ringing and working normally, but it’s not!
We meet tonight to discuss The Lovesong of Miss Queenie Hennessy. The link for this is available from Sue Masters at firstname.lastname@example.org
Please note that a number of people from the church will be walking the Coventry Canal from Atherstone to the canal basin, a stretch of approximately 24 miles. There will be plenty of opportunities along the way to join the walkers to complete a shorter (2-3 mile) stretch. Do get in touch with Greg or Veronika if you would like to join us.
The date of the church’s annual meeting has been set for Monday Sept 7th at 7.30 p.m. via zoom. The link is below. Nick and Becky are willing to stand again as churchwardens (Praise the Lord), but technically need to be nominated. Would someone do this via email to Greg and Julie. You are at liberty to nominate someone else if you wish, but please check with them first that they wish to be nominated! The AGM will elect PCC members. If you would like to stand, please let Greg know. More pressingly, we will need to elect Deanery Synod reps. If you would like to stand or want to know more about what this entails, please speak to Greg.
Please contact Greg if you require the link for the APCM.
Please pray for
Ted Drayton who continues chemotherapy this week and Pete Wilson who is recovering from a nasty work accident.
