Bulletin – 19th April 2021

Church Bulletin

Yesterday at St Andrew’s we said farewell to Phil and Anne Richardson as they prepare to leave Coventry for their new Parish in Hampshire. It was great to be part of Phil’s final service at St Andrew’s and to hear Phil preach. In his sermon Phil spoke about transformation; the transformation of Peter as he steps out in faith and steps up in the role ordained for him by Jesus. Peter’s transformation made possible thorough Christ’s love and sacrifice and this transformation Phil reminded us, is offered to all. We are transformed by the love of Christ as we repent and accept his forgiveness, transformed through faith and the healing power of Christ.

As we say farewell to Phil and to Anne, we are aware of that transformation in them and in their ministry as they step out on a new path with God; transformed by the Holy Spirit and part of the ongoing transformation of our church and community here in Coventry. We know that God will bless them in their new church and we hold them in prayer as they continue to be part of God’s transforming love.

Church Opening

The church has now re-opened for live worship every Sunday and will also open for private prayer on Thursdays.

Due to limited seating, places may be reserved by contacting Julie on a first come, first served basis. As before, we urge you if you have an invitation not to forget and if you are suddenly unable to attend to let us know at the earliest possible moment. Face masks continue to be required. If you see anyone not wearing a face mask, it is because they have medical exemption. We are not allowing any other exception. It is imperative the rules are strictly adhered to. This means gelling hands immediately upon arrival, taking your pew straight away as directed by the steward including whether to sit by the wall or the aisle; not moving from your place at any point during the service; and leaving promptly afterwards.

Bookings are now being taken for services so please contact Julie if you would like to attend.

Phil’s Leaving Service

Sunday the 25th April will be Phil’s last service at St Andy’s. The service will also be in person at St Oswald’s, but if you are interested in attending that one please let Julie know on administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk. We will also be streaming the service on Facebook for those that can’t attend.

Children’s Service

If you would like to attend our Children’s Service at St Andrew’s on 2nd May please let Julie know by contacting administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk or 07756 918847.

Attending St Andy’s Services

If you would like to attend a service at St Andy’s please contact Julie as she will be taking bookings. Please contact administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk if you want to attend.

Covid-19

Rates in Coventry – we are seeing a positive reduction in those testing positive in the city alongside hospital admissions too which is great news. However, with the easing of lockdown measures we all must continue to be vigilant when we are out to help keep rates low. Remember to wear your face mask in the required settings, keep your space from those you do not live with, and wash your hands regularly.

Beryl Poppitt

We have heard the sad news that Beryl died last Sunday. Beryl had been a member of St Andrew’s church for many years. We send our prayers and thoughts to her family at this sad time.

Parish Profile Meeting

Many of you will have heard me mention the Parish Profile. Many of you I expect are not clear on what this document is and what it’ll be used for. Last Monday the PCC signed off our Parish Profile document and the churchwardens and PCC are keen to make sure that those who wish to know more, have the chance to find out. Therefore, on Thursday 22nd April at 7:30pm, we will be holding a Zoom meeting for anyone who would like to join us when we will outline and explain what’s included and its importance to filling the vacancy for a new vicar. The Zoom details are available from the parish administrator or the churchwardens. We hope some of you will be curious enough to join us. Nick Tooby

Help Needed for an English Conversation Class

Are you a native English speaker? St Andy’s have started running a conversation class for refugees and asylum seekers in the Tile Hill area. We need volunteers to help run the conversation class on Wednesdays, 11.15am-12, currently meeting on Zoom. All you need is to be able to speak English and love God! If you are interested, please contact Sue Best (susanbest369@btinternet.com/07837488721).

Cleaning the Church

As we are opening the church again from Easter Day, our thoughts are turning back to cleaning the building. Currently, we have a very small team who are on the rota to clean once a week. The team is Phil and Denise Davies, Diane Wilson, Becky Crowe and I who clean on a voluntary basis. Ideally, we would like to add some more volunteers to help us.

It normally takes a couple of hours to clean the church and side room (we are not cleaning upstairs currently) to make sure it is ready for a service on Sunday.

Cleaning of the building is important at the moment, not just to show visitors that the church is cared for, but also as part of the arrangements to allow us to open the church safely. Would you be able to help? If so, please email me at nicktooby@btinternet.com

Thank you, Nick Tooby

APCM

The date of the church’s annual meeting has been set for Monday 17th May at 7.30pm via zoom. The access codes to join the meeting will be available nearer the time.

The APCM will elect churchwardens and PCC members. If you are an existing PCC member, would you please let Julie know if you are willing to stand next year by 10th May or if you are interested in standing, please let the one of the churchwardens know.

Children’s Society Boxes

it’s that time of year, so if you have a money collection box can you either leave it in church please, or contact me to collect it. I will not be able to personally collect the boxes till mid-April. Thank you for your support and a special thank you to Jackie Lynch who has stood down this year as the Children Society parish representative. Nick Tooby.

Youth Wellbeing Course

St Andrew’s is running a 6-week course on youth wellbeing for ages 8-14 on Wednesdays 6pm-7pm via zoom. Starting April 21st. For more information contact Emma on standrewscovyouth@gmail.com.

Youth Work

Building Our Faith

Following completion of our Lent series our Wednesday evening Bible study will be taking a break over the Easter period. We restart on Wednesday 28th April at 7.30pm on zoom. All are welcome to join us, Sue Masters.

Book Club

Have you ever thought about joining a book club, been a member of one in the past or thought that’s not for me? Is now the time to think about being part of St. Andrew’s book club?

We set up the book club two years ago and although interrupted briefly by Covid have continued to meet over zoom. Some members have recently left the area and so we are relaunching and looking to encourage more people to join.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday 8th June at 7.30pm on zoom (We hope to resume in person meetings at a later date). The book we have chosen is The Shack by William P Young. This is a novel published in 2008 and is a story of how a grief-stricken man’s encounter with God changes his life forever. You may have read it before but we felt it was worth revisiting.

We would love more people to join with us to read and discuss the book. If you have any questions please contact Sue Masters on 07958 322026.

Please Pray

Please pray for John Shelton who is now home from hospital but has a long recovery ahead.

Please also pray for St Andrew’s as work continues to take place in the process of finding a new vicar.

Do send Julie your favourite bible verses or hymn verses, names for prayer and any birthdays, celebrations or articles for inclusion in the bulletin. Julie can be contacted on 07756 918847 or administrator@standrews-eg.org.uk
